When There Are No Words: Repairing Early Trauma and Neglect From the Attachment Period With EMDR Therapy

Beautiful work on early trauma therapy
Sandra Paulsen is one of my top three teachers worldwide in the therapy of trauma. This book sets out the way to work with clients who experienced trauma in the first 3 - 4 years of life before we have words to describe the trauma and can only experience it as body sensations and emotions. She describes everything with remarkable clarity and compassion, drawing on neurobiological research and illustrating it with her excellent cartoons. Her methods incorporate EMDR techniques, Parts work and Hypnosis, which are some of the fastest ways of working with trauma. The writer is a wonderful, compassionate eccentric and I have loved attending her workshops when she visits London.

So many errors!
There are SO MANY typos and mistakes throughout this book, it makes it really difficult to read. I can’t understand how a book can get to the stage of being published without decent proofreading. I’m only 30 pages in and so far it’s lots of talking about the approach/model and very little of how to do it. I’m hoping that changes as I go on. So far, really disappointed with the writing style which is such a shame as many other reviews were so positive.

Brilliant manual
Best emdr and early attachment book I’ve ever read. It helps to integrate psychotherapy into emdr in simple and clear steps. It provides clear manuals and anticipates what problems you might encounter. Simply brilliant!! And the new techniques I’ve used, particularly resetting affective circuits, really work on the more complex clients! Already bought copies for my work colleagues!!

Educational ... a must to add to your library
Despite the therapeutic language it was aptly illustrated and easy to follow, has greatly increased my knowledge of the subject and have recommended to fellow EMRR therapists.
