Marvel Knights: Astonishing X Men, Torn

Astonishing
This DVD is part of an overall story arc. The complete series is, in order: 1. Astonishing X-Men: Gifted 2. Astonishing X-Men: Dangerous 3. Astonishing X-Men: Torn 4. Astonishing X-Men: UnstoppableWhile you can watch the first (Gifted) by itself, as you get through the series, you will need to see the other stories to better understand the overall story. My only complaint is that there are no subtitles on any of the discs. They would have been especially handy in the last chapter of Gifted where the background sound effects of the action scenes were so high in the mix that you could not make out what the characters were saying. Also, F.Y.I. the only disc of the series with extra features is Gifted.

Penultimate Installment in Joss Whedon's Astonishing Story
Joss Whedon's time at the helm of Astonishing X-Men created an epic story arc. This DVD is the third installment (after Astonishing X-Men - Gifted (Marvel Knights) and Astonishing X-Men - Dangerous (Marvel Knights) ) in the motion comic adaptation of the brilliant run on comics. The adaptations are nearly scene for scene and word for word animated versions of the comics. This third volume is probably the most fascinating so far because so much of the action comes from within the character's personalities: A psychic attack preys on the character's worst fears. Beast becomes a beast; Wolverine becomes a weakling. This installment also explores the character's relationships: Emma and Scott--and Jean, Kitty and Peter. The scripting is amazingly tight and the episodes are tense. If the episodes didn't have credits every fifteen minutes or so, it would be seamless nearly hour and a half long feature. This DVD has it all. Humor when Wolverine is brain-fried back to childhood. Romance when Kitty and Colossus finally have time to get to know eachother. And action, lots of action: Aliens, girlfight, SWORD, Hellfire Club. The only thing the DVD doesn't have is a decent case. The disc comes in a slimcase with a cardboard front; it doesn't even snap closed.I can wholeheartedly recommend this DVD (and really all the Astonishing x-men motion comics) to any fan of the X-men.

3rd in series pretty good stuff!
Continuing the story started in Gifted and continued in Dangerous, this motion comic provides a pretty satisfying experience. Yes, this is a motion comic (same as Gifted and Dangerous) and not an animated film. As I've stated in my reviews of the 2 previous releases, once you watch the film for a bit the limited motion of the characters doesn't really bother you, it's kind of like a breathing comic book panel. The only thing that is a bother is the fact that each episode is about 10 minutes long and you still get the long opening credits and closing credits. Outside of that....it really is a solid buy if you are an X Men fan.

Best of the Josh Whedon run
The 4th and final arc of Josh Whedon's run on Astonidhing X-Men comes to a close with "Unstoppable", and it doesn't disappoint. The story was as riveting as the dialogue was sharp and humorous. I highly recommend all 4 arcs in this series, including "Gifted", "Dangerous", "Torn", and of course, "Unstoppable".

Whedon does it again!
Excellent. Great graphics, characters and story. Alternate Marvel universe skilfully represented. Really enjoyed it. Josh Whedon is an expert storyteller.

Part 3 of Whedon's Astonishing saga
Another hit! This time in surround sound (awesome for telepathic effects). Remember this is a motion comic, not a cartoon.
