J-Tech DigitalPremium Quality Optical SPDIF/Coaxial Digital to RCA L/R Analog Audio Converter with 3.5mm Jack Support Headphone/Speaker Outputs (Digital to Analog)

I had used a Roku 4 to stream since 2018..However recently i received a notice from Hulu that as of june 1st, the Roku 4 would no longer carry the Hulu App. UGH! So i had to buy a new Roku Ultra. Unlike the Roku 4, the new Roku Ultra did not come with a fiber optic output capable of powering Zone 2 amplified speakers. As a result, I had to look elsewhere. At first, I bought the J Tech 4K 60 HZ model. Did not work. I called the J Tech help desk and they advised me to buy the model J Tech EXD2. After trial and error, I found that for it to work, you had to directly input the signal from the Roku to the EXD2 HDMI input. If you input from the Roku directly to the Receiver, then to the EXD2, you get no sound from the Zone 2 speakers. The EXD2 has to be first in line from the signal source. It cannot follow next in line from the Receiver HDMI Out. Since the fiber optic cable is the source for the sound from the Receiver, it is necessary to activate the input on the Receiver that receives the fiber optic cable.The instillation was somewhat tricky, but you have to get the order sequenced right. There were no pictures included with the EXD2 indicating how to wire a signal source like a Roku, a Receiver, and aTV with the EXD2. Just remember the proper order and it works. First the Roku(or signal source), to the EXD2 HDMI input, then from the EXD2 HDMI out to the Receiver, then out from the Receiver HDMI Out to the TV. The analog cables go from the EXD2 to the Receiver analog inputs (CD in my case). The optic cable from the EXD2 out to the optic input on the Receiver.

I bought this product to be able to send a second simultaneous audio output from my AppleTV 4K to Zone2 of my AVR and it worked like a charm. Easy to install and configure.

The device would not decode multi channel Dolby Digital.

I searched for years to finally decide on the Panasonic LCD TV because I arrived at this conclusion: Image quality is paramount in selection above features ( even though I desired a headphone port to watch while the wife was sleeping). This device now enables me to use my headphones ( Turtle Beach X12, USB powered, 3.5mm connector, 50mm drivers make movie watching far better than using non-usb powered headphones), for any TV having a digital optical link jack. Currently in the living room headphones are connected to the DVR or the BluRay player. More people should know about this device and I will assist when I am able to do so. I had 4 e mail contacts with J-tech before I bought the audio extractor and they pointed me in the right direction. Upon first hookup, it didn't work and Saude B in their tech dept researched my receiver and had me make a minor set up change turning off my hdmi control feature and got it to work! Fantastic customer tech support, Saude spend a lot of time helping me to solve my hdmi output splitting problem, saved me $1800 over my only other option in buying a 11 channel 2 HDMI output AV receiver! Will definitely buy from J-tech again! Highly recommended!

All around the product is great and customer service is awesome. They followed up after my purchase to make sure everything was in order and was very thoughtful. I haven't had any trouble at all. Honestly I only bought it to use until I got my new TV. For general use it's great and the sound was pretty good, wasn't great (the reason for 4 stars). I did notice some slight distortions, but for the price, you really can't complain. I would recommend it to a friend or buy it as a gift. The device is built well and is simple to use. I have a LG TV with one working HDMI port and no audio out for a wireless headphone. Using a manual HDMI switch to handle my Roku 3 and LG bluray player. Added this audio down-mixer to the line between switch output and TV, set to Bitstream EDID. RCA outputs are connected to a bluetooth transmitter. Works great!

Adapter allows me to use my stereo receiver with my Playstation and Chromecast, but over the air broadcasts come in with a white noise. The three stars may be brought on by my ignorance as how to fix the issue, but I was disappointed that it was not a straightforward plug and play system. I will have do some investigating to see if I can get the over the air broadcasts to successfully play over my stereo receiver.If you are using this for a Blu-ray or gaming system in which you only have a stereo receiver then I would recommend it.
