My students love this story. The mix of Spanish words and phrases translated into English could have been cumbersome. Instead the words flow beautifully and the children love learning new words in both English and Spanish. So do I!

This is a charming book about a little girl daydreaming of travels with her Spanish-speaking grandmother. It is a very sweet story, which flows from city to city. The usage of Spanish words is appropriate and doesn't make the book sound too Spanglish (a mixture of Spanish and English). Only one minor con - I wish this book would come in a hardboard format, rather than softcover. It is easier to use with smaller children.

I love the way this book gently introduces Spanish vocab. It’s so well written and beautifully illustrated! The kids loved learning new words in Spanish and dreaming about flying over a city with their Abuela.

なんて自由な発想だろう、と楽しくなる中身と絵の絵本です。スペイン語にふれたい、と探していた時に出会った絵本です。随所にスペイン語が出てきますが、英語でどういう意味かが説明されているので、別に問題はありません。タイトルの『アブエラ』はスペイン語で「おばあちゃん」という意味だそうです。公園でおばあちゃんと一緒に鳥に餌をあげているうちにふわりと体が浮き、空を飛んでいる２人の姿･･･その後の２人の冒険はとても楽しいです。２人が飛ぶ街の景色もそこで生活する人々の描写も細かく、カラフルで活き活きしているので、眺めているだけでも楽しくなります。英語と一緒にスペイン語もかじる、というのも面白いですよね。
