Traveling Man: The Journey of Ibn Battuta, 1325-1354

First of all, it's pretty hard to find children's books about historical figures (or even historical fiction) about the Golden Age of Islam. So I guess I was pretty desperate when I saw this one. But it way surpassed my expectations! The illustrations are really gorgeous, and the text is not overwhelming for a lower elementary student. This book also had the side bonus of speaking to my daughter's own rather nomadic lifestyle, which was not on my radar at all. All I thought we were getting was an average book with some historical facts, but instead we got stunning illustrations, thoughtful text and relevant life lessons. What more can you ask for from a children's book?

THis book is absolutely a work of fine art. the story is beautifully concieved and described and the illustrations are out of this world, with every page framed in beautiful calligraphy, original text from ibn batuta's journal, and authentic 14th century maps. Good for ages 3+ in my opinion. this is one they will appreciate more and more as they get older. also great for adults!

This publication is beautifully illustrated with watercolour and brush paintings, along with magical calligraphy of an Arabian man's journey through many, many, many countries before he arrived at the planned for country! This at a time, long, long gone and passed, travelled by Camel, Horseback, and foot!The book can be informed and enjoyed by anyone aged six to ninety!

Beautiful book, amazing layout and illustrations. Very good for children to understand the journeys of world explorers. Provides a good context for beginning of world travel and introduction to countries and cultures for 7+ year olds.

I was hoping for an actual book, with the full text of the story. This is just cartoons, with captions, and minor bits of text.
