Short stories in French too.
This is a book of the classics. I an bot ready to write a review of the originals , I merely want to experience them in French, which I know enough of to read. The publication is a marvelous idea. It should be read by more people, more often. I am delighted I bought it.

Just right
This is hard enough but just manageable, thanks to occasional glances atthe 'english'. I love Flaubert and I am carefully reading his 'Herodias'. Some of hisbeautiful flowing French is beyond translation.. but if you must, then the translationoffered achieved a high level of accuracy and readability.Reading some of the other stories, I suspect 'Herodias' is the most subtle.Very rewarding.

Great find.
I do not often have the time to devote to lengthy tomes, but I can truly enjoy this compilation of short works. For the serious student, the casual reader, or that special person who is trying to re-capture their French studies, I would highly recommend this book.

Recommended for French courses
The fact that the english version is right next to the french version is very helpful to those still learning the language

Nice Collection of 19th Century Authors
This is a great overview if you want to get taste of works by some of the seminal authors in France during the 19th century. The variety of stories and authors is excellent. As usual, Stanley Applebaum does a nice, fairly literal job on the translation.

a great era in French literature
every author in this volume is worth reading in their own right. its worth noting however, dover books never have audio to accompany the text but i have had no trouble finding the matching audio.
