The Swordsman

Nearly Perfect
I've been waiting forever for this to hit the US market. After renting it, I purchased it and watched it another two times the last couple of days. The choreography and swordsmanship are amazing. The storyline isn't original, per se, but it is compelling nonetheless and adds to the feel of the overarching theme. If you love Yojimbo and Akira Kurasawa style movies along with modern martial arts action set in medieval times, you will probably love this. I'm digging Korean cinema more than Japan and China these days. The cinematography and choreography, as well as storylines, have been fantastic the last several years.Add this to your collection.

The only thing that would have made it better is...
...more backstory. This movie was nearly perfect, and one of the best movies (not just martial arts movies) I've seen in the past few years. The lead actor was incredible. The pacing was absolutely perfect. The backstory of the lead actor was very interesting and I could have taken another hour (at least) of it.The fight choreography and filming was just perfect. None of that camera bounce crap that prevents you from even watching the fight. It was just beautiful.

Brilliant, especially compared to what's been coming out lately.
Definitely comparable to the the Samurai movie era. A mixture of so many great movies that stands alone and original with a great story line, great lead acting, action, super choreographed scenes without using CGI. I'm about to watch it again.

Very Well Done! 'Swordsman'' Aptly named. Five Stars
Excellent! The Swordsman is short and sweet. Very little dialogue and not much needed; everything you need to know, plot wise, was conveyed. Jang Hyuk is impressive as the swordsman; his moves are art in motion. I love the mix of his martial arts and sword play. I purchased this film, and plan to watch it several more times before taking a break.. Truly miss this film genre; it reminds me of the classic Japanese samurai movies. More please!

Solid action, predictable, but not bogged down
This gives me a John wick 1 esque feel without amazing ambience and hip music. The action never gets boring and the character development doesn’t take the front seat nor does the drama and sentiment. I thoroughly enjoyed this and would suggest the watch for anyone who is up for action and doesn’t mind the usual clean wrap up ending.

Fantastic piece of Korean Cinema
The plot might be over done but it’s all about execution and this does enough to get you invested in the characters to were you want the main character to succeed in his mission. The sword fight choreography is fantastic. Well framed and very few cuts so you can appreciate it.I’ve only seen a few Korean films over the years but the ones I have seen I have liked. This one is on the high end. Buy this film.

OK. A bit too dark...
An OK film. Obviously well-made and some exciting set pieces. But the night-time sequences - and there are quite a few - were too dark to see what was going on and with who...perhaps it was just my TV, in which case I apologise.

Excellent
If you are into martial arts movies then this is a must for your collection. The storyline is is okay, but the sword fighting choreography is done to a high standard.

Tremenda.
Excelente película de artes marciales con un protagonista que eleva la película con su magnífica actuación. Un plus al darme cuenta de que el villano es Joe Taslim, a quien me tomó un par de escenas reconocer. Muy recomendable.
