Bats in Question: The Smithsonian Answer Book

Yes, Bats are important.
Don E. Wilson; the world expert in bats! Not necessarily the most beautiful of creatures to human eyes looking for anthropomorphism but absolutely right there in the forefront of the history of evolution and how flight developed separately for at least 4 creatures; insects, pterosaurs, birds and bats.Mr Wilson has produced a brilliant introduction to these creatures and was right at the cutting edge when, for a time, it was thought that bats might in fact have been two groups of creatures which evolved separately. Fruit Bats, especially their teeth, are so different from other bats that it was thought that they could not have evolved from the same creature. Mr Wilson no longer espouses this theory (maybe on the basis of DNA testing?) but it makes bats extremely important in the analysis of evolution.Wonderfully readable- if you are into Pterosaurs or birds you just have to get updated on insects and bats.

Fly By Night
I like the Q and A format of this book, nifty photos and a text that made sense to me, not a scientist.

A good book for the naturalist at heart!
Here is a book that can keep the reader interested and help answer any questions about bats. The text is easy to read and the photos spectacular! It is a soft-cover book that's just the right size to tuck along when you want to go out of the house with it.
