Important movie about the culture of rape on college campuses
Really liked this movie. It shows the emotional impact of a very traumatic event beyond the personal victim into the lives of everyone around them. It chronicles the continued view that women who get drunk set themselves up to get raped. Hence the men are not responsible because, they were drunk too or they were just kids or they just watched it happen not participated or she seemed to want it. It points out the continued accepted and endorsed culture of rape on college campuses. It highlights the many parties involved who failed the rape victim and how many times justice is continuing to be sought by loved ones years after the event. It also shows the emotional fallout of those invested, including the mental disturbance of the main character who seeks to make them all admit what they have done. In a twisted way, she is trying to make a difference.

Not a gory thriller, another kind of movie
I understand some of the criticisms that "nothing happened" and it was "anticlimactic". The movie was kind of set up to be a little gory, thriller-y, horror and if you that is what you wanted / expected, i can understand being let down. For me, I think the movie is more trying to show the 'horror', the fear, the forgottenness that women experience at the hands of men and society on the daily. Protecting men's potential at the cost of women's futures. How so many lives were destroyed by a secret that everyone hoped was forgotten. That even when someone is gone, their pain can live on and consumes others. The devastating effects of trauma on those who are left behind. I think the movie was trying to show that that is where the really terror lies - it is in the every day for many people. ****** MAJOR SPOILERS ****** it really struck me that even though Cassie was in so much pain, that this event consumed her life in pretty much every way, that she didn't commit violence to any of them. She put circumstances into play to mess with people mentally, yes. But nothing ~actually happened~. It was on puRPOSE that that didn't happen. That even in consuming rage and grief there is still a line there that couldn't be crossed. She KNEW SHE was the one who was going to die!!! Even her ultimate revenge resulted in her OWN destruction, and yes. He's going to jail and probably some other people as well. But the justice came at such a price. Nina's life. Her life. Her parents grief and confusion... the bride... etcetc. That's the point. It takes everything. It's not just some joke at a party that everyone moves on from. Assault affects lives, it takes lives, it spreads like a poison. Think of how much could have been different if he had been prosecuted for real at the time of the assault. Real life is so much more horrific for so many people than a stabby gory thriller movie could ever be. That's the message here.

Wish all movies were written and directed by women ...it's time! We need to see the real world.

This is one GREAT MOVIE! It's smart, funny and wise, and probably should be shown to all first year college students, male and female, during frosh orientation.

BRILLIANT
An unflinching and flawless look at patriarchy. Incredible acting, phenomenal writing. A film that brilliantly defines the times we are living in, and one of the best I've ever seen. Carrie Mulligan is pitch-perfect.

Didn't live up to the hype
I expected the movie to be vengeful, gory, and entertaining but it was a disappointing to say the least. Her revenge plan was poorly executed as if the writer just got bored towards the end (was the written by men?) she walked away losing in every sense and the only death in the movie was completely anti-climatic. every time the music would amp up to something exciting absolutely nothing happened, anyways don't waste your time I was excited but I think Megan Is Missing is worth a watch over this again

Read this review plz (Twinkle twinkle "little" star)
After reading several 1-and-2-star reviews, I decided to chime in. Let me share a few phrases first: Reviewer Karen Beld said it "didn’t live up to the hype" and she expected it to be "vengeful, gory, and entertaining but it was disappointing...her revenge plan poorly executed...and...every time the music would amp up to something exciting absolutely nothing happened." Reviewer CDub said the character was "supposed to be just turning 30 but gravity makes this sadly unbelievable." Haha. They either didn't GET it or they watched a different movie w/some similar name. See what the positive reviews say about revenge, plan-execution and entertainment factors. The music is part of the humor...screeching pre-murder soundtrack or "epic" over commonplace. S-A-T-I-R-E. Unpredictable genre-switching. It was a Sundance Film Festival movie so not a huge flashy set budget & there's a word of explanation on that. The two main characters were great actors imho. I give this movie 4.78 stars (only b/c of a couple little plot-spots). Twinkle twinkle little stars, 4.7 lotsa stars. Clicking on CDub's icon and seeing she's a female commenter just makes me shake my head over her Age-30-gravity diss. So sad to see women buying into the youth-&-beauty-body-culture. If I had to use any degree of suspension-of-belief about the character's age with that actress, it was very small. Such a petty criticism of a very talented, appealing (and lovely) woman. And it's a great movie, a unique one. Okay, wait for it to be less than $19.99, but watch it.
