Q: .Are these contoured where they wrap around the waist? My dog has a bad back and the diapers that are wide hurt his back.

I use these for my doxie and they are effective when used with a inserted Poise pad. They are not really contoured. They are about the same width all of the way around but the Velcro area is very large so you can adjust how snug you make it. The diaper area has some elasticity and this also allows gentle adjusting.

Q: My dog has a 16" waist.i bought belly bands before-small is too tight and medium is too big.can you tell me if these run on the smaller or larger fit?

I got a size small for my Shih tzu male who weighs around 12 lbs and he measured a 14 inch waist and it fits him pretty good with a little room left....or you look for another brand that measures out closer to the size you need....yes, some do have different measurments

I can’t speak for your pup, my 11 lb stocky shih Tzu wears a medium and it works well for him. I really like the fit, use and look.
