A great book ! Must read
This is a work of genius only Taslima could write. She is a bold writer who is not afraid to express her honest feelings. A Truly remarkable lady. A brave description of what actually went on in Bangladesh in early 90s. Too many people want to ignore the fact that hindus andother minorities get treated like garbage in muslim majority countries. Too sad that things like these do not get published in news and papers. I wish Indian army had intervened during these attacks on minorites in 90s.

she is a great writer
This is a heart touching tale of a Hindu family who love their country despite all the odds. I finished the book in a day. I was awake all night to know what happens next? I think she left an open question which kept me awake all night long. Sad but true story of religious craze. She deserves all accolades for a writing style that would move your soul. You are bound to think of the religions, the reason as to why they exist and the power any religion has when misused by politics. Its very sad that the poor and oppressed are easily carried away by religion. In a country like Bangladesh they favor religion over development. What else can be more sorrowful and moronic?I would recommend everyone to read this.

Shame on Religious Fanatics.
Lajja (Shame) is the live depiction of the ethnic cleansing in Bangladesh. The Dutta family living in Bangladesh all their lives refused to live the country in spite of occasional terrorization by the Muslim fundamentalists. But when the retaliation against the Hindu families sparked after the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, India, in 1992 and the flames of hatred, killings, and bloodletting started, the nightmare arrives at the Dutta's doorstep and their world begins to fall apart. What happens with each and every Hindu family, living with the Muslims for centuries we see vividly in this story. This is not a report of any journalist, statesman, or politician. What is unique with this novel is the personal daily diary of an eyewitness, Taslima Nasreen, who was engulfed in this drama. Muslims of Bangladesh called for a ban on her novel. In Oct. 1993, an Islamic fundamentalist group, the Council of Islamic Soldiers offered a bounty for her death. In Aug. 1994 she was brought up on "charges of making inflammatory statements," and faced death threats from Islamic fundamentalists and religious Muslims. A hundred thousand demonstrators called her "an apostate"; a "militant faction threatened to set loose thousands of poisonous snakes in the capital unless she was executed." After spending two months in hiding, at the end of 1994 she escaped to Sweden, consequently ceasing her medical practice and becoming a full-time writer and activist. Since then, she has been moving from place to place.Israr HasanSept. 2, 2012.

Shame ! Must Read !
I appreciate the author Taslima Nasrin for writing and publishing this book. The extent of destruction of hindu places of worship and atrocities on minorities -Hindus in Bangladesh is terrible. All religions should wow to live and let live - no more conversions by hook or crook - how about that ? too idealistic ? but truly that's seems to be the only way to a lasting global peace.God bless the Bangladeshi Hindus !I think every one should read this book, because that helps humanity understand the perils of extremism in various forms, and helps humanity be more tolerant.

A must read
This is amazing book, shame that it is banned in Bangladesh. If truth is hidden from next generation, they are likely to repeat it.Reading this book make one feel that Declaration of Human Rights, a UN Charter, is useless if no action is taken to hold perpetrators accountable. How a genocide of these proportions goes unaccounted for in this world is a crime in itself. In Pakistan and Bangladesh, pogroms of hindus has been happening repeatedly since 1947 but not a single country has raised this issue in UN, not even India.Author has captured the events with great skill, human passion and sensibilities.

The cover of the book shows that it is LAJJA but the book is actually on meditation and matras.
LAJJA TASLIMA NASRIN is written on the cover of the book but contents of the book is on meditation and matras by Swami Vishnudevananda. How was the cover of the book or vice versa changed? What should I do now.
