Started reading and can’t put it down! The information about colors used in Japanese art through the centuries was amazing. I can’t wait to use the color palettes given with each historical photograph. Highly recommended for artists and Japan historians.

Bought this version after I found the Modern version in a local bookstore (also recommend getting). Book shows great examples for palettes and colour combinations for design work. Great resource!

Very nice for design ideas.

I absolutely adore this book. I preordered it several months back before it was ready for publishing and finally obtained a hardcopy after nearly half a year of delayed release (probably pandemic related). It was so worth the wait! I have always admired how Japanese textiles and traditional items such as kimonos had such a natural way of tying colors together that don't seem to make sense on paper but look incredible when put into practice. That's what got me intrigued about this publication. Based on brief picture previews on Amazon it looked like a decent reference book for colors in a unique book layout, so I went ahead and ordered. But what really made me fall in love was when I actually saw this book in person. It's filled with wonderful color combinations that will be inspirational to my artwork, it's printed on decent high quality paper with good ink work. I'm not too particular about the designs and patterns sections but the individual colors and their meanings, as well as the overall "feeling" of each theme rings so true to me. I feel a connection with the colors and understand what they convey. The combinations are mature and complex but work well together. I also love how this book adds bits and pieces of Japan's heritage and history in a way that's fresh and enjoyable. There are small sections between chapters that changes up the presentation. Overall I find this book so wonderful, I don't have a reason to put it down. I have also purchased the other Teruko Sakurai work of Modern Colors of Japan without hesitation

Whether you are an artist, quilter, or just interested in the beauty of Japan and all its artforms-this is the book to own. I'm afraid that I'm not going to share and may have to buy a few more copies. I should mention the thoughtful layout and design of this book as well.

Was war ich unsicher, ob ich dieses Buch kaufen soll... und dann was für eine positive Überraschung. Es ist nämlich viel mehr als ein Buch über Farben. Es ist eine faszinierende Einführung in die japanische Kultur, insbesonders in den Lauf der Jahreszeiten. Durch die Verbindung mit den Farben und das tiefgreifende Wissen über die japanische Kultur gewinnt der Leser und Betrachter einen bewundernswerten Einblick in Japan.

I love this book full of wonderful colors and swatches ,Pictures and logos tips on colors and color wheel I needle felt ,color and learning to Draw, I find the book is highly useful for me. I got both books . I personally think they are the best books for crafters . in my option.

Mich hat das Buch wirklich überrascht. Zwar sind die Vorschaubilder repräsentativ, aber ich hatte mir das Buchdesign dennoch anders vorgestellt. Als Grafiker ist die Gestaltung wirklich unattraktiv und wirkt auf schlecht Art veraltet und peinlich.In der Tat war der erste Eindruck so schlecht dass ich sofort eine Rückgabe beantragt hatte. Ich habe dann am nächsten Morgen nochmal ins Buch geschaut und musste feststellen, dass der Inhalt, Farbschemata und Nutzwert überragend sind, wenn man einmal gedanklich und emotional vor dem Grafikdesign und billig glänzenden Papier kapituliert und vor beidem resigniert hat.Ich vergebe insofern trotz all der Mankos 5 Sterne für den wirklich großartigen Inhalt.
