For older kids/adults---great fun
I am an adult and LOVE to play this game it's quite addictive if you like to maneuver little bits and pieces to cause reactions to move parts around to solve the puzzles. It's amazing! I have one of those personalities where I don't give up until I get it so this is for me. I like solving the increasingly difficult challenges and puzzles but there are some drawbacks to consider:1. You work on these logic machine puzzles in the umbrella of some weird, unexplained game in Egypt. The overall "game" is not explained in the directions. Each time you complete a puzzle you get another dot on an Egyptian trail for which the end goal is unknown to me... I finished about 20 puzzles and I am still just getting more dots.2. There are no hints and you can only skip 5 puzzles. That said, if you aren't really patient, this might not be for you. I worked a puzzle where I had to shoot a slingshot at a gun to make it fire. The bullet cut a string that released a weight, etc. The slightest movement of the components or misfire of the slingshot throws the entire reaction off (like real life) so it takes perseverance to get these puzzles right. After you struggle and finally get the puzzle to work, it takes you to the "dot" trail and your creation is gone if you go back into the same puzzle. It would be nice if you could save it.3. It is not always obvious how to use the tools in the "toolbox". It takes trial and error. I have used some sort of "magic cord" on several puzzles but I have no idea what I am doing with it.4. I think the other awards and challenges you unlock as you go along are lame. I have little interest in those sections.5. This is not easy and may really be geared for older kids and adults. My 8 year old likes to work with me on the various puzzles but he can't figure them out on his own yet and doesn't have the focus to keep trying something over and over again. He gets frustrated and bored.

Very hard brain teasers
This is not your typical puzzle game. This takes some serious brain excercising to solve the puzzles presented. You are given a area with a mission. Get item 'A' to spot 'B'. Use the tools and items given to you in the inventory (which changes for each puzzle). Some of the early ones are very easy, just so you get the idea of how to play. But once you get going, the puzzles become real head scratchers. This one is for the SERIOUS puzzle solving game player. I find the levels I am on now very hard. But still love it.Recommended for older players (not young children) and adults. It will keep the gray cells sharp!

Challenging with shortcomings
Challenging, but not frustrating to play.At the end of the game, maybe 4-5 hours total, I was disappointed that that's all there was. I kept expecting a seriously hard level, and except for one of the bonus challenges, most puzzles/challenges were pretty simple to solve. (for me at least)Only one person can save game/score at a time meaning it cannot be shared among a family like Brain Age or Mario Cart. That's a big disappointment.Rent it if you must or you'll reselling this on Amazon after a couple weeks like we are.

A gift
I will have to update this review but I'm extremely excited to have found the product. My 8 year old just did a simple physics chapter/test in school last week and he had to complete a project displaying his knowledge as well. I wish I had found this game before so he could have applied it all in virtual time. It's never too late. I hope he enjoys it this Christmas.I love that there are so many educational entertainment options for Nintendo systems.Update:He says he likes this game but I don't see him playing it much. I think the reason is just that he has too many non-educational games that he's much more excited about exploring. Sorry I didn't have anything good. Give him time to bore with the others and I'll check back in.

Just as good as ...
Thumbs up for this game. Two of my favorite DS games are Gravity and Crazy Machines. Build it, press play, and watch what happens. The physics in Logic Machines are good .... similar to Crazy Machines, not quite as perfect as Gravity, but far far better than the wreck of a game that Mechanic Master is.
