Defective wiring
The wire between the wrist snap and the alligator clip is open. This device does not provide any anti-static protection.I have three of these (2 order several years ago) and all three show the same fault. I took them apart to discover the problem (returning them was more expensive than the purchase) and all three had the identical issue. The wire was good (conducted electricity) until it entered the snap to the wrist band; then it opened someplace within the snap mounting — all three failed in the same way.

No connectivity in this strap at all!
After using these wrist-straps for months, I was verifying that I was grounded, and found out that there is no connectivity between the plug/alligator clip end and the snap end! As my return period has long passed, I cut the wire to be able to test where the problem is. It is in the snap end - it is not connected to the wire. The plug/alligator clip end is properly connected to the wire, but the snap end is not.I then rounded up all five purchased in this kit - and NONE of them have connectivity between the ends of the wire!Out of curiosity, I also attempted to test the strap itself - I was unable to get any connectivity readings between the strap and the snap. I have some other wrist straps, and will be testing them before using. It appears that the inexpensive price was due to a totally defective product!

Product is not actually functional
Right out of the box there is no continuity between the part that makes contact with your wrist and the alligator clip. This is a prop, not actually functional grounding hardware. The wire is actually nylon? This has no actual way to discharge static electricity. Another great example of bogus amazon reviews. Blessed be the return policy. Don't buy this one, it does not actually do anything besides provide a false sense of security.

Excellent.
If you really want to protect the semiconductor devices you handle (circuit boards, memory, etc.) you are supposed to have an antistatic mat on the floor and one on the table, and you are supposed to have a ground strap on your wrist (right) and on your ankle (right). This is the recommendation of the military, not my imagination. Static damage is very real. It does NOT necessarily show up immediately, and it does not have to be a hard fail. Intermittent annoying failures are a sign. What is great about these ground straps is that not only are they comfortable on your wrist, they also fit easily and comfortably on your ankle. Previously I had to have wrist straps lengthened to fit my ankle. This was a nuisance. Whoever designed these was thinking ahead and planning for proper use. I appreciate that immensely. Recommended. Would buy again.

Great deal. Stop the static shock with these.
I needed these since I work in a datacenter and deal with static sensitive hardware all the time. I didn't like using disposables provided so got my own like our vendors have. These appear to have a black conductive side that touches skin for even better static dissipation from your body. The cables are long enough to reach the length from front to back of a server chassis without getting caught in anything. They have detachable alligator clips which reveals a banana plug, if your setup requires that. I gave one to the co-worker that was giving me the disposable straps and he likes it, too. Highly recommended. Great stocking stuffers for custom builders or datacenter technicians.
