Excellent value but the layout is a curate's egg
A5 hard cover journals a typically a lot more expensive than this so I was intrigued to see if it was a good substitute for the more brands I normally use. The Unique Selling Point for this journal is the three sections of pages. Generally you have to choose between, ruled, dotted or squared paper when selecting a journal, so it was unusual to find one containing all three. In terms of other features, it has a hard cover with nice detailing (although the 'better than last year' logo might have a limited shelf life), and a pen loop that is strangely above center. There are twin satin page markers and the now standard storage pocket in the rear cover. The paper is not the smoothest I've ever come across but it's okay and ink didn't bleed through. The gsm of the paper isn't quoted but it's quite heavyweight. That's the good news. The rest is really a matter of opinion. I tend to get dotted journals for bullet journalling (not art journalling, bullet journalling as it was intended, for time management) but I also have lined ones. My personal preference is for a single type, ruled for general note-taking or journalling, bulleted for breaking out into sections and customising as necessary. Having both could be useful but ideally with numbered pages and an index section at the front. The graph section is both ruled into too small a grid for my liking and also the lines are printed too dark so I honestly could not find a use for them.It could be that there is a gap in the market for a combination product like this but my suspicion is that the bigger brands have done enough market research to know that single format journals are more popular. That's certainly the case for me, I'm afraid.
