Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams Map [Gifford Pinchot National Forest] (National Geographic Trails Illustrated Map, 822)

I usually lose satellite service when I’m hiking, so this beautiful map could even be a real lifesaver!

I was under the impression this map would have full coverage of the Goat Rocks Wilderness. I must have been mistaken.

I haven't gotten lost yet, so the map's gotta be working, right? The magic thing about a map is... you have to know how to read a map for it to work. This is a great map, and if you know how, it's easy to read. If you don't know how to read a map, don't buy a map and complain about it. Many people think they know how to read a map, and they don't. They think it's like any road map, and it's not. There's a lot to wilderness maps, there are no cross streets here, you know? So finding your position and using it to find your way actually is a skill you need to learn. I understand people don't like that. But don't blame the map, because this map is great.

This map is so beautiful and made from quality materials, I wish more attention were paid to layout. First, it’s organized in east/west front to back, rather than north/south. For my trip I had to constanty flip back and forth between the two sides. Also, the upper and lower portions of the Gifford Pinchot are missing from the paper map- I needed to download those parts in an app on my phone.

All weather and good detail.

This is a good map. It's durable, has nice color and detail.4 stars: This is a map of two- close in proximity mountains - however this map also gives lots of coverage to the surrounding areas. The problem with that is that the mountains, and trails on the mountains aren't as detailed.If this map is being used to help find your away around St. Helens, then great. If you're using this on the mountain, I would recommend other maps that have more detail.

The map is well-printed, and the plastic coating is great. It is large as someone else noted, but it folds well and will be easy to stuff into the pack. The big problem with it is that that there are no point-to-point distance measurements on any of the trails. I've not hiked this area before; so maybe the trails are pretty straight and you can simply use the general scale to determine distance, but that's not ideal if you're planning to do a long hike and want some assurance that you know what you're getting yourself into before setting out. There is also no general indication of relative trail difficulty (easy, moderate, severe, etc.). Again, you can use the topographical features to see relative elevation changes, but that's not the same as a rating--a level trail over boulders is harder than a 5% incline over hardpack, for example.

Good general hiking and trip planning map. The scale is a little small and there are occasional errors. The material is rugged and long lasting.

Die Karte ist sehr genau. Da wir mit einem großen Wohnmobil durch die USA und Kanada fahren, wollten wir vorab wissen, welche Strecken und Campingplätze, für unser Wohnmobil geeignet sind. In den Karten ist genau vermerkt, wo Campingplätze, Rastplätze, Besucherzentren usw. zu finden sind. Außerdem sind jede Menge Wanderwege eingezeichnet, so das man sich jederzeit auf den Weg machen kann. Die Erklärungen bzw. Legenden sind zwar in Englisch, sind aber trotzdem leicht verständlich. Wir können die Karte nur empfehlen.
