Am adding that the seller contacted me to give a full refund. Didn't ask me to change anything. I didn't take it because I put the thermometer in the frig and it must have kick started it as it works now. Giving it a 4 still as I had to "adjust" it :-)Prior review....If you look at the photo on the web, that's how mine looks most of the time. I do live in the tropics so the temp is most often above 80. However...my thermometer won't go below 80. No way to fix that. On the positive it's easy to read, seems pretty durable.

I wanted a thermometer on my deck to know when I should either open the umbrella or go inside. This so far seems to be filling that requirement. It is showing variations in temperature and not appearing to be stuck on one temperature. So far, no reason to resort to calibration. Not that I could calibrate it since I do not have a standard to calibrate to.I took guidance from the NWS on where and how to install a thermometer outside. Generally, 100 feet from any obstructions or concrete, five feet off the ground, in a little shelter of its own, louvered on all sides. Well, that was totally out of the question. My compromise is a wall surface on the deck that generally gets little or no direct sunlight. If it did get direct sunlight, the wall would absorb the heat, and always to off. So far, that seems to be suitable for my needs, and agrees with my infrared thermometer.There is a problem with determining the accuracy of any thermometer. If you are relying on the TV weatherman, he is relying on NWS, which is probably at the airport, and for me is 45 miles away, and at an altitude of 5430 feet above sea level and with 30 miles of open space in every direction. I live at 6200 feet above sea level with the foothills all around within a half a mile. No way I have the same temp as NWS.

Great for the patio! We have ours on the wall where we have a large overhang so it won't get wet. Nice addition to the patio.

This is the definition of cheap junk! This thermometer is large, but comically inaccurate. It was at least twenty degrees too hot no matter where it was placed. We tried it indoors, outdoors in the shade, and outdoors in the sun, etc. You can see the photo, taken at 10am, showing that it's somehow 130 degrees.

It looks good and performs well. It is hanging outside the back door, under an overhang and near the pool. With its low price and high functionality, it should be highly considered when purchasing a thermometer.
