This headstrap is pretty much impossible to install, and practically worthless
This looks like a nice replacement headstrap for the HiFiMan HE-400 headphones... until you actually try to install it. The OEM strap has two metal clips on the ends that are required to attach the strap to the headband. This strap does not come with any clips, just the faux leather strap. I tried to re-use the existing clips on the OEM strap, but they are crimped onto the ends, and bending the metal to loosen the crimp *breaks* the tab almost immediately. Once these are gone, the only recourse is to crazy-glue the strap to the remainder of the clip in lieu of mechanically crimping it in, and hope for the best. I'm waiting for the glue to fully set as I write this, so I don't know if gluing the strap, along with the plastic outside trim piece screwed in place, will be enough to hold it together. If not.... I think my only option will be to buy the replacement headband from the HiFiMan site for $75. They only sell the whole thing, including the metal band on top and the loops that attach to the headphone cups. A definite rip-off for a pair of $200 headphones. Instead of that, I'll put the $75 towards a *decent* set of cans, with better quality. The strap on my phones was mechanically OK, but the top layer of the faux leather was peeling off. If I knew this was going to be such a PITA, I would have just thrown some duct tape over it.

not easy to install
it is exactly what is shown in the picture. the he400i has two metal clips that are hiding under the plastic pieces that it attaches too, it doesn't come with those clips and it's tricky to take them off and put them on without breaking them. this isn't a simple easy mod, the screw locations are tricky to get to. and it's just generally not very easy.the product feels similar to the original, though given the difficulty to install, i'd like to at least get metal clips instead of having to reuse the old ones which broke.would i buy this again. of course. it works and it's super cheap, not sure what other options are out there. deafen replacements generally feel stiffer than my worn pads, not sure if they will wear in nicely, but i'll update this when they do.

Do not buy this if you are looking for something similiar to the original
So besides the fact these do not include the metal clips necessary and you have to use your own this headband is extremely rigid not soft like the original. The stem of the headband that goes into the metal clips is easily frayed and wears down and rips very easily. I can not recommend this product to anyone looking for something similar to the original.

You cannot repair HiFiMan headbands without breaking them
The procedure shown in the product video does not work. I followed it step-by-step, and the procedure broke the headband for my earphones. The plastic enclosures cracked, the metal brackets snapped in half, and the screws stripped. The results you see in the product video—where the HiFiMan headband comes apart without breaking—is not true to real life. In reality, expect everything to break because it is cheaply made. This product should not be on Amazon because the described repair will break your headphones.
