Excellent book on the history of women in medicine
Quite an interesting and sometimes incredible story of what these young women went through just to get the privilege of studying medicine with the male students. Overcoming bigotry, constant roadblocks, strident misconceptions of the female gender and more were part and parcel of all the trials these young women had to endure just to study medicine, let alone practice as doctors. My granddaughter is a fourth year medical student. I bought this book for her and for me. After reading it, I told her she stands on the shoulders of all those incredibly persistent women who forged ahead and damned the consequences. Like her, they had a dream, and eventually, over time, they fulfilled it and aided all the women doctors coming after them.

The early struggles of women to become doctors.
A very well-written, easy to read story of the struggles of three of the first women doctors and the prejudices they faced and overcame simply to become educated and professional. These three ladies helped to advance medical practices and gave hope to many other women to become doctors.

For anyone interested in learning about our pioneer female doctors. Quite eye-opening
I had no idea of the obstacles that stood in the way of our first female doctors by the male establishment. I found myself drawn into these women’s struggles, sharing their anger and frustration.

Fascinating material not so well presented
I wish this had a better editor to help the writer present the information in a more cohesive way. I consider myself a feminist and of course was outraged at the obstacles these women faced, but at times I was actually bored reading this.

Realistic
Gave it as a gift to a female physician. She liked it and said it described medical school and residency experiences.

Never picked up in interest
Kept hoping the story would pick up, get a bit more exciting but it kept going on and on. Monotonous

Too repetitious
Very disappointed in the author. Maybe good youth book.
