Perfect for Sourdough!
My sourdough starter was outgrowing the jar so I looked for a bigger one and found this. It arrived in perfect condition. I read the reviews when I ordered it and saw that the top tends to rust so looked around for a plastic substitute. The ideal lid was on top of a 40 ounce plastic bottle of Milkbone MaroSnacks. I took the cardboard liner out and washed and switched lids. This jar looks great and is just what I wanted for sourdough with the wide mouth. For some reason they sell a lot of canning type jars as good for sourdough. That is the first kind of jar I used and I didn't like it at all. For one thing the mouth of the jar was too narrow. I am very happy with this jar.

disappointed in quality
The jar came securely wrapped in bubble wrap and packed well, so there was no breakage. I am, however, quite disappointed in the quality, especially for the price. I expectd much heavier, sturdier glass. These are significantly thinner glass than some older ones I own (not sure of the brand of those), seems liek it will be easy to break. I also would prefer a slightly square shape, again like the older ones which make them easier to hold without slipping while handling. It's not easy to find wide mouth jars. I use them to hold flours as the wide mouth makes it possible to scoop out flour with measuring cups.
