Imparts a rich flavour.
This is weird stuff! I have never seen powdered salt before. And the colour is a beige/brown rather than black. It tastes intensely salty and slightly earthy. Clearly, if you want to make really authentic Indian meals this is a must have. A curry I made with it certainly had a richness of flavour the same recipe had not had before. But generally I think I'll stick to my ordinary, cheap salt from the supermarket.

Pungent salt for chaat masala
Kala namak is a salt containing various sulphur compounds, which give it a purple hue (hence "black salt" from its dark colour) and a pungent, eggy taste. Its main use is in the "chaat masala" blend - the composition and relative quantities thereof will vary according to what recipe you encounter, but it generally contains coriander, cumin, chilli, black pepper and amchoor (dried mango powder) as well as this salt, giving it a unique combination of heat, sourness, saltiness and pungency. Many of us will probably have only encountered the chaat masala blend in a chicken or vegetable chaat starter in an Indian restaurant - apart from this there are a few street foods you will see in India which use it. So its use is relatively limited, even more so in the UK, which is a shame. But if you do want to make chaat blend, this brand is worthy of it, very finely powdered and with a good pungency. The pack may not look too big but it's 200g, and is going to make you a shedload - over a kilo, depending on your chosen recipe - of chaat masala.

Perfect for Indian cuisine and dishes
Black salt is a salt I’ve never heard of so trying something new was nice. I will say that the taste this salt provides is pretty abnormal for me, it offers an earthly and slightly eggy taste, which should be used for specialist dishes only. I have heard that black salt is perfect for use in Chaat Masala as it helps bring out the richness of flavour. I also found an article online which presents almost 400 recipes that use Black Salt, so if you run out of ideas on what to use this with, you’ll have plenty to experiment with.A good quality black salt however can not be used like your typical normal salt, so sadly not as versatile. 5 stars.Thank you for reading my honest review, I hope you found it helpful! :)

A wonderful, unusual additional ingredient
I am a big fan of Kala Namak black salt and not just for its traditional usage in Indian cookery. As it has a tang of sulphur to its flavour, it works really well in dishes that would normally use egg. It's one of those cheat ingredients that works to give additional almost umami flavouring. I use it instead of standard salt in any dishes where I want strong flavour: curries, of course, but also chillis, Mexican food, anything with a spice. This is a great value pack and would make a great gift for the foodie who has everything: they will be intrigued!

Vegan must have
Kala namak is also known as black salt which is known for its antioxidant properties and has a surprisingly low sodium levels making it a healthier and safer type of salt to be using. It also contains lots of minerals like iron, calcium, and magnesium.Black salt also will helps control issues with heartburn and bloating. It’s taste is like regular salt but just with a mild sulphur flavour added to it.Great for vegan cooking as it replicates the taste of eggs.Comes in a resealable bag which is very handy.

Great Value Quality Indian Black Salt
Am so pleased with this as wasn't expecting the best considering this is pretty good value compared to some others we've had but it;s actually a brilliant blend - pretty fine and strong on the saltiness front with a nice natural undertone of earthy flavour to it and is much better for you. For this price would recommend fully and definitely get again - a big thumbs up!

Strange aroma
This stuff is obviously an acquired taste. It smells very rank like drains in my opinion. The small also transfers to the food you cook with it initially though fortunately, it seems to lose the drain aroma when absorbed by the food.I would not buy this again.
