Durable
You have to remember that this is freshly machined! So, there will be a little aluminum dust that will come out. I don't know why they didn't just give it a shot of compressed air before packaging?! The threads will be a little rough. Just open and close it about a dozen times and put a drop of cooking oil on them. It will open very smooth after. The pick itself is very heavy for it's size. This is what you want. And the pick is actually larger than what the pictures look like. Usually, it's the other way around! The picking rod that's inserted is stainless steel and is very pointy! It's in there good. So, I can't see it getting loose or falling apart. I'm glad I chose this one.

why is there powder in the container?
I like the ice pick and it seems very sturdy but I am exceptionally unhappy that when I opened it for the first time it had a bunch of powder in the cap and between the screw threads. It was really scary because it didnt mention that it would come coated in anything and then a bunch of powder flew onto the floor. I had to rush to put it into the sink and clean the floor to make sure that the powder didnt get on anything. I dont know if other customers experienced this but it was really unacceptable. I don't have a photo because I freaked out and immediately threw it in the sink to stop any of the rest of the residue from floating around. I'm sure it's just something from the manufacturing process but it was a really unpleasant surprise.
