The definitive book on a very underappreciated car
Yes, I'm the guy whose Maverick, bought new by my dad in 1974, graces the top of page 109. But please bear with me, I promise I'll do my best to do an unbiased review! This is an authoritave, well-researched book on a car which doesn't have the cult status of a Mustang because it was meant to be an economy, simple car in the US. It was lauched to compete with the VW Beetle, among other cars! Even its stunning good looks and the later availability of V8 power didn't help it to achieve a following today.... In the US. In South America, where the Mustang was never built, the Maverick took over its place and is one of the most valued collection cars nowadays - the V8s, that is. Mr. Cranswick covers it all in this book. He starts with a brief history of the Ford Motor Company, so the reader can place the Maverick in its market place. Then he compares every model (Thrifty 170, 200 and 250 CID sixes and 302 V8) with their respective competition. He covers the a bit upscale Mercury Comet. He covers the dealer specials. He covers drag racing with the Maverick. He covers South American Mavericks and their use in road circuit racing. He even covers the virtually unknown Shelby Maverick (made in Mexico only). The police packages. And he covers also the cars that took the Maverick's place in the Ford lineup. It is a love letter to this car. By now you must be saying, "unbiased, you promised?" OK, Appendix C - Specification tables, could have data on more models. Also, a timeline of models and options would be helpful. And a chapter on the development of the car, showing early sketches, clay models, prototypes (Ford has to have those in their archive) would also add to the book. Second edition, maybe?

A lot of interesting details about Mavericks
and some other Fords from the same period. Having owned my Maverick for 49 years this is a "must have" book. Has photos of friend's Mavericks and my own so...

Don't waste your money!
Feels like it was written by a 12 year old who "borrowed" phrases and facts from wiki. I stopped reading after 4 pages because of the annoying writting style. Don't waste your money.
