Not watercolor pencils (see pictures)
I really love sitting down with my preschooler and drawing or coloring together with any medium, but watercolor pencils are among my favorites, because we get the chance to draw, to paint, and to really see in a hands-on way how colors combine to make different hues! Here's how the Stobbe Burgett colors measured up.The color range is very good--none of the 48 pencils are duplicates, and they are bright and saturated colors. Not the best transfer out there, but far better than your kid's Crayola. A few metallics are included, which you can see in the first picture on the roof of the church. The issue came when I tried to turn the colored areas into watercolor. As you can see in the coloring book picture, the pencil lines never disappear, whether the area is colored in gently, with extra lead, with lots of water, or with a little. I was frustrated, thinking that maybe the issue was the included brush, so I grabbed our Up & Up flat & stiff brush. That did push the color around slightly better, as you can see in the green areas surrounding the drawing, but it still wasn't possible to get a good color or to fully erase the original lines.I thought that maybe these pencils were intended for artists who like to draw and then have a slight wash of color filling in their pictures, like some of the more delicate-looking drawings in our children's books, but when I tried that, the color barely moved. In my second picture, you can see two heavily-colored areas. One of those is from a non-watercolor colored pencil, and one is from this box. You can see that the color is no more soluble than any regular pencil. In the end, it's disappointing that the listing and the box itself both claim that these are watercolor, BUT I did add one star back because for regular coloring purposes, they're fine pencils for the price.I received this product at a discount in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

These color very smoothly...
This set of 48 colored pencils came in a full-color, illustrated cardboard box. What I Like about these Colored Pencils1. The lead is somewhat soft, but not so soft that the pencils will be used up quickly.2. They color smoothly, and it's easy to vary the darkness with just a slight change in pressure.3. There are a lot of color choices - several shades of the main primary colors, greys, flesh color, etc.4. These are water soluble, which allows you to achieve different effects with a little water.5. All pencils are fully sharpened and ready to go.6. These pencils would be nice for any age child who can hold a thin pencil in hand. The effects are beautiful, so I'd encourage students who don't write well yet to use them. It's very motivating to practice letters with a solid quality colored pencil. What Could Be Improved1. The pencils don't fit in the box very well. Sometimes it's hard to get the lid closed, so you're likely going to need a different container to hold these long term.2. I didn’t get the bonus coloring book. But if you go to the company website, you can download a free one there. It would be helpful to make that clearer.I purchased this colored pencil set at a promotional price for testing and review purposes. These are mid-grade colored pencils - a few steps above the "elementary school" coloring pencils you find on sale in July/August. They do color smoothly and you can do some cool things with shading. This set would make a nice gift for a budding artist. Just add a coloring book or good caliber art paper! I think a classroom teacher would appreciate these as well.

Great set to start real coloring with
You get 40 vibrant colors, plus 3 Flesh colored, 1 black, 1 brown, 1 silver, 1 gold and 1 white.Watercolor pencils give artists the best of both worlds by combining two unique mediums, taking each drawing to a much higher level by allowing more control and versatility. I really like art products that can be used in different ways and watercolor pencils are one of the most versatile painting mediums.Watercolor pencils can be applied directly to paper with the opportunity to add water afterwards, softening and blending the colors. Watercolor pencils can also be applied to wet paper while using a separate sheet of paper as a palette. Other effects can be achieved by rubbing a paintbrush against the lead to get instant color. These pencils can be used both dry and wet. The pros generally consist of the smoothness of the lead and the control and flexibility available, allowing for both subtle and bold watercolor results, depending on the amount of water applied. These pencils are comfortable to hold and do not smear once on paper. Also happy to say that I don't have to push down really hard to lay color. The cons seen to be minimal for this set. One major complaint being that some pencils have warped or off-center lead and, sometimes split while sharpening but so far has happened a lot less then other softcore pencils. If you have never used watercolor pencils before, a good tip is to try them out on a few random sketches first to get used to the way they react on paper. I would advise you not to use them on a finished cartoon until you have become familiar with them and know what to expect.A 5 star review was not promised to the supplier in exchange for the discount but I stated that I would provide a review that would be fair and honest.
