I perceived this small book the way a jury would hear the big story of a woman(who once was a girl). I remain struck by the gender difference in the impact of slavery (violence for males and rape/abuse til maternity for females) and deeper struck by the very young/ mothers/grand-mothers' voices (better have one's baby die than it be: starved/be a slave/sold soon/raped when teen...) so many issues that are not so often brought to light...J'ai reçu ce petit livre comme un témoignage d'une "grande" histoire, celle d'une femme qui fut fillette esclave. Je reste frappée par la franche différence de vécu de l'esclave selon son sexe (pour les garçons la violence et le viol jusqu'à la maternité pour les filles ) et plus frappée encore par les voix des filles-mères/mères/ grand-mères (mieux vaut avoir un enfant mort-né qu'un enfant: affamé/esclave/vendu au marché/violé..)
