Great upgrade to a great RPG
If you haven’t played the 3DS version this should be a definite, this is a upgrade to the 3DS Miitopia in every way which is a very fun very cute social interaction RPG (it’s a weird cross genre). There aren’t a large amount of changes that I’ve noticed but there are some fun ones, and possible more.- better graphics and better textures (of course I know).- a new horse character that is adorable and you can customize.- many new interactions and a few new ways to build relationships with your characters.- wigs and make up allow tons of new ways to customize your characters.- general quality of life improvements making the game far more playable. The game was already packed full of cute fun comedy and it’s a great casual RPG that could definitely attract hardcore fans. Again if you’ve never played the 3DS game do yourself a favor and have some fun. If you have this is still a pretty good upgrade. And remember the cup is always half full.

A Fun Adventure You Won’t Want to Miss
I’ve played Miitopia on the 3ds before, so this game isn’t exactly new to me, but nevertheless I decided to play through it again. I’m currently only a little bit through the Switch edition, but from my first impressions the port is well done. The UI is fairly seamless , and I don’t really find myself missing the second screen that the 3ds offered. Nintendo also added a few extra features to the game (not to mention vast improvements in graphics) that are fun to play around with and add some new ways you can play.As far as Miitopia by itself, it is still a turn based JRPG set in a mythical world where people’s faces have been stolen by the Dark Lord, and you (as well as some of you friends/family) have to stop him/her. I think a lot of people who play this game or consider picking it up are afraid of their teammates being automatically controlled and I thought this might be a problem when I originally got the game, but it really isn’t. The miis each have their own personalities on and off the battlefield and it’s fun to watch chaos unfold across the screen as their personalities interact with each other in interesting ways. The battle system is fun, but the cheesy jokes, wacky mii interactions, bizzare locations and killer soundtrack really carry this game. It’s not a game I would skip, and once you get in you’ll see why.

7 year old loves it
It's difficult to find games that are appropriate and engaging for my son, but this one is a winner. It's nice because I don't have to monitor it as closely as I do with games downloaded on a tablet. He also likes that he gets to customize characters from his family and friends. The bonding terms are a neat way to introduce concepts to him while still being a really fun game.

Hilarious RPG
This game is a very fun RPG that lets you customize pretty much every single character in the game. Your party members, the main antagonist, the townsfolk, even the background NPCs will be characters that you make yourself or simply download from other players. This can make for some rather hilarious adventures that will most likely be unique to your playthrough. The combat is pretty easy as you can only control your main character while your other party members attack, use items, and cast spells on their own accord. Their personalities will also come out during combat as well, such as stubborn characters attacking twice when not satisfied or kind characters letting monsters flee.I'd highly recommend playing this with friends watching as it just makes the whole absurd experience even funnier.

A fantastic character creator and light RPG game
I'll start out by saying that I skipped over Miitopia on the 3DS in 2017, so this game was a fresh experience for me. I was pretty much sold on the game after playing through the demo and messing around with the new Mii Maker tools. I recommend trying to demo before paying full price for the game. The main gameplay consists of turn-based battles using party of customizable Miis. Unlike the Paper Mario series, Miitopia thankfully sticks to the tried-and-true RPG formula: battling monsters, leveling up, and unlocking new skills in the process. Unique to Miitopia is a relationship system that allows Miis to team up for attacks during battles (or hinder each other out of spite). Relationships are developed between battles in surreal Tomodachi Life-esque cutscenes. Miis that spend time together generally become better friends (or romantic partners?).The only major problem with the turn-based system is that only one Mii is playable. The other three are controlled by AI. This makes sense given that the Miis are supposed to be driven by relationships, but it can lead to watching battles play out more than actually participating in them. Even so, the AI is convincing enough to not make it feel like a computer is simply doing everything. Each Mii's personality and relationship play a massive role in making battles less predictable, and also adds some interesting strategy to the system.Where Miitopia truly shines is in its weirdness and humor. The Mii Maker is expanded with powerful new editing tools, making it possible to create virtually any Mii caricature of family members, celebrities, and even politicians. The customized Miis fill the roles in Miitopia's otherwise generic story, making the cutscenes and dialogue completely hilarious. A complete lack of restrictions means that any Mii can take on any role, which is how princess Bob Ross ended up marrying Shrek in my copy.In terms of graphics and sound, it's passable. I was curious how much better the game would look on the Switch compared to the 3DS, and it's definitely an improvement when comparing videos of the two. Miis stayed about the same in terms of level of detail (other than the move to HD and wigs), but the environments have much better texturing and shaders. The only negative thing about the graphics is that some of the models are obvious low-polygon ports from the 3DS version.Overall, Miitopia is a hilarious character creator with a light RPG system added in. If you're looking for quirky Nintendo humor and the chance to create large numbers of Miis, you'll have a blast. If you're expecting Miitopia to be a serious RPG, you'll likely be disappointed.
