Consider a few things before buying
Unlike many of the reviewers who got this from the supplier for a "deeply discounted price" (E.G. for free), I paid the full $24 price for it. I received no favors to influence my review and will discuss some of the negative points others might not have experienced. Other reviews do a better job in expressing the positive aspects, and shouldn't be ignored. The "vice", which was mentioned on another review arrived broken. It's cheap plastic and won't close or open smoothly (I think the nut was molded into the plastic crooked so the little bolt keeps jamming). The clamps are on par with other $6 helping hands offered on Amazon. The light is nice, but not very bright with new batteries that you plug into the base. If you use a USB battery charge pack with the supplied USB chord the light is much brighter.Nearly the entire unit is plastic with the exception of an embedded tray and the alligator clips and arms and a few small screws and nuts on the joints. I didn't have much expectation here, and the base doesn't feel flimsy, which is nice.Although the neck and head seemed to hold over the course of a two hour soldering job, the joints didn't feel firm enough to hold position for longer jobs. Since they are joined with metal screws, I might be able to tighten them if needed.Even though it contains a spring to hold a hot soldering iron, the plastic base melts quickly and the coil naturally positions the point of the iron right on the plastic. You can put two and two together to see the potential problem. Be careful where you adjust the coil and you'll be fine. All in all, it feels a bit overpriced. I'd expect to only pay $19.99 for something of this design and quality. I still anticipate getting good use out of it, but was disappointed about the defective vice.If I had the decision to purchase over again, I would have looked twice at other options considering my need at that time - I might have still purchased it, but the price still feels too high. For other non-soldering jobs (E.G. Superglue jobs) I expect this to work splendidly. I like the magnifier and the LEDs (provided I use the USB) and the rotating arm. There are features to enjoy, but you should be educated on whether this is the right helping hands for you.

Better than nothing
Wish it was a bit heavier, had an extra joint on the clamps for a little extra flexibility, and a flexible arm for the magnifier/lamp. The arm on which magnifying glass is attached gives you very limited area where x4 portion can reach, but more importantly gives you almost no control over the light position. Also you can not use the light without magnifying glass since they're both a part of same assembly. The plastic vice in the middle between the alligator clips is not fixed, and is only held in place by its own weight, and its thumb screw is very small making it hard to open and close the vice in its tight thread. The part where the arms assembly connects to the base (just under where the vice rests) sits on plastic gears which should keep the work area from spinning, but the gears are so fine that it's easy to rotate by accident, and there is no way to fix it in place besides gluing it. I can imagine that over time these plastic teeth will wear out and there will be no way to keep the work area from spinning loose.Better than nothing that's for sure. It more or less works after some fiddling, and the weight can be slightly improved by installing 3 AAA batteries but this thing falls a little bit short in all areas from being a good product. The only reason I still have it is because I kept forgetting to return it. There are better products available on amazon for a couple bucks more. I am looking forward to the time it finally breaks so I can replace it with something a little bit more flexible.

Acceptable for its purpose
This is a decent lamp/workstation. The adjustment screws (the white buttons on the arm there) are extremely hard to get "cracked," but once I was finally able to get them going, they do allow the arm to be adjusted fairly easily. Overall the shape is good, and conducive to using the magnifier for detailed work. I am quite disappointed in the LED lights. There are two, and they are not very bright at all. I have several LED light sources, and I know they can be quite bright, so the lack of brightness is a let-down. It's not an OH my gosh I can't use this let down, it's an Oh well, I still have to turn on the "big" light letdown. Meh, it is what it is.Overall, it's a decent lamp. I use it for jewelry and for coloring. Like I said the lights are not helpful so to be honest most of the time I don't even turn it on. The included power cord is a USB cord, but it also will take AAA batteries, so it can pretty much go anywhere. IF you need the magnifier more than the light, and you are looking for something affordable but functional, this might do it for you. If I had it to do over, though, I would look for (a) better LED lighting, and (b) a more flexible neck.

I don't need to wear my reading glasses while working on my jewelry design.
I do jewelry so this Helping Hands comes in handy for me. I had one a long time ago and had to toss it out since it broke. The first one I had did not have a light fixture on it like this one. There are times when I need to hook small jump-rings onto the necklace or bracelet it requires me to be steady. I would clip one end onto the clamp while I make adjustments on the other end. I don't need to wear my reading glasses with the large magnifying glass. For small gems, I can just place it into the tray and use my long nose tweezers to pick it up to place it on the design. I would recommend this Helping hands soldering for anyone that works on jewelry or even small crafts.

This product is not bad but it's produced cheaply
You get what you pay for. This product is not bad but it's produced cheaply, as I paid. Nothing majorly wrong just extremely light weight and not what I was expecting. So far it seems ok, just had to bolt it to a think piece of stainless plate to keep it in place while using it. I give it 3 stars, as I said in the beginning, you get what you pay for.

A bit light, but works well.
My old one was worn out after years of use, I don't solder as often as I used to so this is sufficient, the magnifying glass is nice for my aging eyes, as is the light.Adding batteries may help with the weight, but I'll probably just fasten it to a board. The magnifying glass is plastic so you need to be careful when your cleaning it (cloth, not tissue)

Very useful for smaller projects
Very useful for smaller projects.I have used it a couple of times. It has everything my need built in.You can use the clips to keep stable for delicate tight spots.Makes work much easier doing small scale models

Two Stars
Cheap all plastic main components. Not worth the money that it was listed for.
