Great work shoe
I purchase these for my husband who is a corrections officer. He has to wear combat boots to work. But recently got hurt and is in Tennis shoes for a while. They said he had to have a black work type shoe. And this was the first one I found that fit his feet perfectly and he said was very comfortable when he walked. We just purchased a second pair to put on top of the closet to Keep On hand in Case he ever gets hurt again He will have a nice new pair of work shoes.

Not just a work shoe
First things first, I found this shoe to be light weight and comfortable from the get-go. I have worn New Balance shoes for many years, choosing either the wide or extra-wide sizes. A go-to shoe over the years has been their their various training shoes that I have used extensively at the gym, often using them while playing hoops. (Have you ever tried to find a high-top shoe in a lower size range (8.5) that comes in wide sizes? Got one pair from New Balance ages ago, but never found a similar shoe again.) When the trainers needed replacing I turned them into work shoes - very comfortable and made well enough to give me a good second life. Eventually, they wear out and at this point I didn't have a pair in the pipeline ready to become my next work shoe. My heavy duty work shoe is a metal-toed Timberland which is nice to have when doing things like splitting wood or chainsawing. But for extensive work in and around the house, a comfortable lighter shoe is wanted. I went online to see what was out there, and was delighted to find this shoe. Using it has been super. After getting the first pair I decided to buy a second pair while it was available. I can use those as an everyday shoe (solid black is great) and they'll be a backup if I eventually need to replace the first pair.

Great for a wide foot, bad if you have high arches, too
Wore 706bk XW (postal service approved walking shoe) for several years. NB apparently stopped making that model when the contract ended. The 577s were similar, so got those last year. Didn’t fit (or last) like the 706’s.Got the 626v2 XWs last week. Very comfortable relative to width (unlike the 577, doesn’t hurt the side of my feet), so thats a plus. However, unlike both the 706 and the 577, these seem to have much less arch support than the other models. How that (ultimately) plays out remains to be seen.Overall though, they are quite comfortable, adn if the arch support works as it, I will likely get these again.

XX is a 6E width
I had given up on New Balance and went over to an Asic shoe, but Asic stopped producing that shoe. I wear a 4E width and the X width, which doesn't seem to be 4E was too tight. I gambled on this XX width, which is a 6E on the shoe tag and they fit great. Perhaps my feet are wider and longer now. I was 10 1/2 EEE forever, then all of a sudden now I'm an 11 6E. Anyway. they are very comfortable and I'm happy with the purchase. Roll with the changes.

Sturdy, reliable and functions decently!
Before switching to Zappos I bought and alternated between these and the "Rockport Men's Chranson Black 10.5 M (D)-10.5 M" from January 2019 for about 2.5 years at my full-time job with corner-to-corner metal, concrete and hazardous chemicals, and both held up decently! They were a bit tight around the toes at first before somewhat adjusting with time and held up decently against chemical spills, repeated impact and constant bending, stretching and twisting before taking one strike too many and fraying at the seams. In addition the soles began chipping and falling off and holes developed around the toe box, but that is to be expected after such lengthy (ab)use. Other pluses include having removable insoles and being stylish, fitting adequately, and being easy to clean. These shoes along with the aforementioned "Rockport Chranson" could probably benefit from soles with wider grooves at the bottom as it was easy for pebbles to get stuck between them. As an okay start to medium-quality work shoes I would recommend both shoes for their durability and thickness despite being tough to break in, giving them a serviceable 3/5 stars!

Model 626-6E; The Upgraded 623-4E
Wore NewBalance 623-4E’s professionally & causally for some 30 years. Presently, 623’s are discontinued. Tried the 626, but in a 6E. Wow! Full support with no pressure spots anywhere. SOOO comfortable! Sorry guys, bought two more pairs (3 total). I’ll never have to worry again about discontinuance of this model. It’s flat, wide heel (stability) is great for the gym, hiking or shopping. High quality shoe for great price.

Extra wide is not (enough)
I have bought XW NB sneakers in the US in the past and they are very comfortable ( I need real XW size.)These NB shoes I ordered on Amazon.de are too narrow and not stretching in the area of the lowest part of where the shoe laces are situated; this puts too much pressure on the big toes. Accordingly, I cannot wear these shoes.
