A smooth low wing monoplane with a fixed landing gear, the travel air was designed by Herb Rawdon and Walter Burnham and was built in secrecy in Wichita Kansas by Walter Beech. Wingspan measured 29'2" with an overall length of 20'2". The travel air was powered by a 420 hp air cooled radial right J-6 whirlwind with a maximum speed of 230 mph.
