Unbelievable acts and behaviour of preposterous nonsense.
Some spoilers here, if it saves you reading the book, you so owe me. Silly and lazy writing. Coincidence follows coincidence in an phenomenally unbelievable series of episodes. Unbelievable acts of preposterous nonsense. A sedentary and middle aged architect can climb out of a railway carriage, perch on a sill and kill a "badman" through a window with a small revolver, while the train is moving. You probably couldn't hit the building. When a book makes you scoff out loud, there is an issue.I'm all for escapism but at least with a nod to reality. A waste of time and a waste of money , the former the greater waste.

House of Thieves
First of all, l am an avid fan of both Peter James and Michael Connelly.Have every single book that has ever been published.Someone then gave me a paperback called "The Paris Architect" by Charles Belfoure.Never heard of him before, but l was hooked.I then ordered his next book House of Thieves and wow, l was not disappointed.Thinking hard about this, l am going to give it 5 stars as opposed to 4 starsIt is really quite riveting, and there is something in each chapter that requires you to read on to the next!Just google the books to find out what they are about, but DO NOT be put off by some of the negativecomments you may see. These books are SO different from what l am used to, but l'm now a fan of his.Am off to see about another book of his called "The Fallen Architect".There are some naff reviews on this of course, but then you get naff reviews about any book issued. For me though, these are really great books. To keep costs down possibly, buy them in paperback or even "used" paperbacks. It's got to be worth a punt, nothing gained nothing lost as they say!

Good read
Charles Belfoure- House of thieves36th book read in 2021I purchased this book used as I saw a good review of this book on Goodreads thus decided to buy it,This book was published in 2016 in paperback and thats the version I readIn 1886 New York, a respectable architect shouldn't have any connection to the notorious gang of thieves and killers that rules the underbelly of the city. But when John Cross's son racks up an unfathomable gambling debt to Kent's Gents, Cross must pay it back himself. All he has to do is use his inside knowledge of high society mansions and museums to craft a robbery even the smartest detectives won't solve--the bigger the payout, the faster this will be over.As he hones his talent for sniffing out vulnerable and lucrative targets, Cross becomes invaluable to the gang. But his entire life has become a balancing act, and it will only take one mistake for it all to come crashing down.I would give this book 4*
