Whistling Kettle Stainless 2.5l Made in Japan Yj1943 by Yoshikawa

Love this kettle. Finely crafted..no blemishes, defects or rough edges. Beautiful shine. The handle and knob are wood. The position of the handle makes it easy to pour. It is easy to open the spout, and it pours a good amount of water without splashing or dripping. The whistle sounds like a harmonica. The first use it did not whistle. The cover didn’t seal the pot. But the next time and thereafter it whistles every time and boils water quickly. I am in love with it. Just wish I could read the Japanese on the box and paperwork it came with. It shipped well packaged...like they care about their product...it really shows.

I bought this kettle because I have been trying for years to replace a kettle I purchased from urban outfitters in the nineties which came from Japan and had a three tone harmonica whistle . Unforturtunately it was also cheaply made and rusted out when I was foolish enough to leave it with water sitting in it. This kettle does have a pleasant two tone harmonica whistle--a major third I think--and while three tones would be better I think this is as close as I can get. The kettle is lightweight, attractive and comes to a boil with medium heat quite quickly. The downsides don't bother me much: delivery from Japan took about a month and the packaging and instructions are all in Japanese ! From what I can gather from the symbols and characters within the red warning triangle, it is ok with gas stoves (what I am using at the moment), but the heat should not be turned up all the way (an icon of a kettle surrounded by flames beneath had a line crossed through it). Based on my experience with my original 3 toned beauty I would not leave this with water standing in it because doing so would be asking for rust. I am very pleased to have 2/3 of my desired whistle at last, and think the kettle should last a good long while so long as it isn't subjected to prolonged overheating. I do wish the manufacturer had included an English translation of the instructions, but I think I understand enough to go on with.

I purchased this kettle about 6 months ago and have used it nearly every day since. The two-note whistle is cool and unusual. It does evoke an old-timey train whistle of some kind. It's not as heavy as I expected (which matches the feedback of other purchasers), but it hasn't rusted yet, which lives up to the "stainless steel" ideal. Sometimes the whistle doesn't blow. The whistle mechanism is like a couple of thin metal wafers connected to a plastic part (which hinges on the spout). Kinda spendy for what it is: a pot for boiling water, but it's made in Japan, so no slave labor, it's stainless steel and has a handsome design, plus it has the train whistle thing.

Worst tea pot I ever bought. I should have sent it back for a refund but threw it away instead. The tea kettle started rusting almost right away and I have never had ANY tea kettle that rusted ever. The tea kettle claims to be a Japanese product but it is clear that it is not made in Japan! Most likely made in China and has a false labeling.

Our All Clad finally went kaput after 4 or 5 years of near constant use. I was looking for a high grade steel kettle where only metal would touch the water and thought if anyone can make a nice tea kettle it would be a Japanese company. This is a nice little unit and I will be buying another as a gift and a few more as backups for myself.My two favorite things about this kettle are (1) how smoothly it pours (our old kettle would spit and sputter the hot water sometimes - dangerous! - I think it had to do with the spout originating near the base of the kettle) and (2) the metal lip at the top opening is curled OUTWARD. The previously mentioned All Clad was actually the third try that was declared "good enough", all three kettles we tried had a metal lip that curled INWARD and in that lip was oily black stuff and metal filings. It was nearly impossible to clean that curl out and I would say that having a lip that curls inward is a design flaw. Thankfully this Yoshikawa kettle does not do that! It curls outward and is very tight; even if there is some factory oils or metal dust in there it is well away from your water.This makes enough for 3.5 cups of tea (2 cups + 1 thermos). I haven't had a whistling tea kettle for a while (the feature doesn't matter much to me) and was pleasantly surprised that the whistle is gentler, it is more like a harmonica note that increases in volume than a shrill whistle. I can still hear it from the next room though so it's doing its job!

Have been using this kettle for a few weeks now. The whistle didn't work the first few times but now seems to be working fine. Visitors have likened it to sounding like a train. The kettle is lightweight but well made, easy to fill and pours neatly. The handle remains cool to touch even after boiling. Overall a lovely kettle, with the added bonus of not being made in China.

〇ピーという笛の音がうるさくて、ハーモニカ音のケトルを探していました。〇形はともかくハーモニカの音は耳に優しく快適で、いい買い物をしたと思います。▲注水口がもう少し広いと中が洗いやすいと思います。▲注ぎ口もあと若干長さがあれば、ポットに注ぎやすいと思いました。▲フォルムにいくつか選択肢があるとうれしいです。丸みのあるかわいらしい形が希望です。

大きさの割には軽いので、年配の方には良いと思います。注ぎ口の下あたりまで水をに入れるようにすると音がなりますが、完全に満水状態にすると音はならず、沸騰時、お湯が溢れます。2.5L表記の笛吹ケトルでも、実際は1.5Lくらいしか沸かせないものもあります。もし、2リットルのポットを完全に満水にしたいなら、100mlほど、容量が足りない感じがしますが、こちらを選ぶのが妥当ではないでしょうか。笛吹ケトルも3Lの物になると、少し値段が高くなり、商品自体も少なくなります。どなたかもレビューで書かれていましたが、沸騰した時の音が、BUMP OF CHICKENの天体観測の前奏のハーモニカ音そのままです。お湯が湧く度、曲が頭のなかで流れます。

義母のために購入音は高齢者にとって良いが、肝心の音が出る部分と本体の接触部が使用時にズレやすいようで、きちんとセットして湯をわかさないと隙間から蒸気が漏れて音が鳴らない。ヒンジの強度不足と思われる。
