Solid temp gun; comfortable, well-constructed, feature-rich, dual-laser, slightly pricey
Product: Lasergrip 630I was looking for a temperature gun to replace an aging one that lacks precision (8:1) along with a lower max temp limit. After looking through about 35+ of these temperature guns under $150, I decided to get this one after a disappointed purchase due to its incredibly uncomfortable trigger and out-of-alignment laser.First of all, it's one of very few (less than a handful or so) under $45 that has a 16:1 Distance-to-Spot Ratio (DSR) with higher than 550°C max temp while having an adjustable EMS (emissivity). Amongst these criteria, EMS is the least important for me (but nice to have) while 16:1 DSR and >550°C max temp is a must for me.Basically I wanted something that can measure at least 550°C because my stovetop (as a baseline) has a temp around 550°C. My old temperature gun has an 8:1 DSR; thus, it makes no sense to me to get another 8:1 or 12:1 given the fact that those are rather old(er) technology/spec (for around $70's, you can get a DSR of 30:1 on amazon). Adjustable emissivity is definitely a nice thing to have but I think it'd just be a nuisance to use for most ppl under most circumstances. The screen will be turned off 15 seconds after the last button being pressed.A quick note on DSR - it basically determines the size of the area you can reliably/accurately measure given the distance between the gun and the object you are measuring. For instance, if the temperature gun is 48 cm (19 in or 1.6 ft) away from an object you are measuring, then DSR 12:1 simply means you can measure the temperature (with a reasonable accuracy) of the object having the size of a circle with a diameter of 4 cm (1.57 in). With a higher DSR (e.g. 16:1), you will be able to measure the same area (with the same accuracy) from 64 cm (2.1 ft) away. Basically, the higher the DSR, the narrower the 'probing beam' so the measurement is more accurate given the same distance. When you point it at an object, you want to measure the temperature at that very spot (guided by the laser) rather than [an inclusion of] its surrounding area and this is where higher DSR comes in.The following summarizes some common scenarios I've come across (assuming you're at least 36 cm away from the object being measured);* Distance of 0 cm between the 2 dots (i.e. single dot), 2.25 cm (diameter)* Distance of 1 cm between the 2 dots, 3 cm (diameter)* Distance of 2 cm, 3.8 cm (diameter)* Distance of 2.54 cm (1 inch), 4.1 cm (diameter)* Distance of 3 cm, 4.4 cm (diameter)* Distance of 20 cm, 16 cm (diameter)So if you see a single dot when trying to make a measurement, you are essentially measuring the temp of a circle with a diameter of 2.25cm (centered on the dot of course). If the distance between the 2 dots is 3 cm, then the area you are measuring is about the size of a circle (centered on the midpoint between the 2 dots) of a diameter of 4.4 cm, and so on.The buttons are easy to work with and it control/function itself is intuitive and easy to use; however, the combo-button that controls BOTH laser and backlit screen is a real annoyance for me because I always want the laser to be on (who doesn't?) but at times I might want to turn off the backlit depending on the environment. With a single button, I couldn't just turn of the backlit but I'll have cycle through other options (including turning off the laser) before I can turn off the backlit. This particular model is one of their highest, and yet they've decided to cheap out on a measly button! In addition, it has the usual Max/Min/Avg and DIFF readings as well as EMS (where you can adjust emissivity) and HAL/LAL (High/Low ALert) threshold. I don't really use these much but they are certainly nice-to-haves. It uses 9V battery which I'm not a big fan of nowadays. All things considered, it's a well-constructed temp gun with slightly higher price point than others but for the quality and the features it has; it's still worth the money for me.*** It's much appreciated if you found the review helpful, please click on the Helpful button below ***

Informative fun for the kitchen geek
Very pleased with this. I'd wanted one since I saw Heston Blumenthal use one in his 'In Search of Perfection' TV series in 2006, but prices were much higher then - something to do with patents, I imagine. I don't operate on his plane but I do like to know as much as possible about the environment I'm cooking in, and temperature is a critical parameter. I now know that my gas oven really can - as its maker claims - achieve 300'C, and that my fridge could do with being a little colder. It really does help with managing cooking temperatures - far more than the crude controls on the appliance itself can do - and I'm looking forward to using it outside once barbecue season returns. What it isn't, of course, is a replacement for a clinical thermometer - not least because it contains a laser pointer and pointing that at a person (even though it can be switched off) is a no-no.It doesn't come with a case, but mine fits neatly into an old airline toiletry kit purse. As a bonus, the plastic surface is nicely tactile - difficult to describe but almost velvety while still being hard; very pleasant to hold. And the packaging comes with a space for the 9V battery that is alarmingly empty. Fear not; the battery is already in the handle, but it's a snug fit, so connecting it and closing the compartment took a bit of fiddling.Small criticisms, though, of a useful and sensibly priced little instrument.

So far so good
I’ve been feeling a draft in an area of my house for a while now, and this helped me confirm what I suspected, that there’s a great temperature differentiation. It’s one thing to feel the difference in temperature but it’s another to actually see the numerical representation. Also this will be very handy annoying how well other devices are working, so far so good. As for the person who bought this for their church, it’s very clearly stated numerous times that this thermometer is not for human or animal use, so that’s no fault on the company.

It's not accurate at all
I bought it for our church but it doesn't show accurate temperature. Most of them shows for bodies 35.1 or 34 C degrees which is not correct.I want to return it but it's not returnable.I don't know if mine is defective or but it's really disappointing specially the item with so many positive reviews..I won't rely on good reviews anymore on Amazon.
