A Super collectible
As someone who thinks of Christopher Reeve as my generation's Superman, what Mezco did was a nice resemblance. The light-up crystal feature was WOW. This is more for me as a semi-collector, but every now and then, this WILL be a job for Superman and out he will come.Like the collector's tin as well the little zip bag for the loose parts so that they don't end up lost.

Mezco One:12 1978 Superman is Awesome!
If you're a fan of Superman, or you're just a fan of the movies, this is a fantastic figure. The likeness to Christopher Reeve is very well done. The multiple hands, and joints lends itself to iconic poses, flight or super feats. The light up Fortress of Solitude base with crystals is phenomenal. Very happy with this figure.

Awesome Superman collectible
This is so cool, neat addition to any Superman collection especially if you're collecting Christopher Reeve Superman figures. Totally worth the money, I recommend getting it now while the price is still affordable, I guarantee it will be $500 or more in 2 years from now just like the hot toys Christopher Reeve Superman.

I like the superman alot, but I was waiting for a taller cape, like was advertised in the picture, but too late now.

Perfect Figure
The sculpt of the head is classic Christopher Reeves Superman. Plus the addition of the Fortress of Solitude display base that lights up and the additional heads and hands along with the kryptonite accessories make this an absolute must buy!

High Ticket Christopher Reeves
This is the first Mezco figure I ever bought directly from Mezco because I simply ran out of other options. I generally buy from a figure specialty site, but the figure started at $180 for preorder + shipping, which is $55 above the MSRP. I decided to wait, and it quickly sold out. The reason I don’t generally buy directly from Mezco is because of their high shipping cost but even with shipping added in the cost was well below other sites. The problem was that it was also sold out on Mezco’s site, so I put myself on a waiting list and lucked out. In the end, I think I paid less than $160 with all costs. That’s a LOT but less than the starting price on Amazon of $245.In my collection of DC figures, this one definitely stands apart. Besides the Ben Affleck Batman, this is the only Mezco figure I own based on an actual person. However, Ben Affleck got all sorts of padding for his costume and most of his face is hidden. Christopher Reeves was in great shape but didn’t have any kind of super heroic level of muscularity. There was no padding in Reeves suit, and it had a very simple dated look. Even the far more muscular Henry Cavill got padding. Obviously, this look is precisely what collectors are hoping for so none of this is a complaint. I do think Mezco buffed up Reeves a bit in the upper body and this might be a repurposed frame.I wasn’t initially impressed with the facial sculpt but it’s grown on me. There are three heads and I found one of the alternatives to be much better than the one that comes on the figure. The face is certainly far superior to low or mid range figures. Sometimes Mezco decides not to do any shading on the face and I don’t think it’s out of laziness or cost cutting. I assume some designers just feel that the shading should come from natural light, but I don’t think it works as well as hoped. The cape appeared extremely short which is not how it looks in promotional photos. In the movie, Christopher Reeve’s cape hung very limp, which would be near impossible to duplicate in a 1:6 scale. The promotional photos for the figure show a cape that hangs to Reeve’s ankles but that’s not accurate to the film. The film cape goes just about to the back of Reeve’s knees which is about where it is on the Mezco figure but because the cape has wires it sits even higher. I’m not a fan of wires but some people like the additional posability. The last issue is with the collar, which should go across the top of his chest but is instead very rounded. It’s possible that Mezco simply couldn’t do the much wider collar because of the way the costume fits. The articulation is all tight and smooth. This is not the kind of figure I would be handling much because a little rubbing might cause issues with the S on his chest. My only real issue is with the ankles and this is an ongoing concern with Mezco figures. There is very little ankle articulation, so the figure doesn’t stand nearly as solidly as I’d like. Besides my dislike of wires, the only other thing to note is that the fabric of the suit bunches up a bit under the armpit but this is just the nature of having cloth costumes. I think of Mezco as the spiritual successor to Mego, but the difference in quality is massive.I could have predicted that the 1978 Superman would jump in price, but I didn’t expect it to be this fast. The figure comes in a special cylindrical tin and I have to wonder if it wasn’t produced in more limited quantities. My assumption is that these figures require some human involvement because of the cloth costumes so they aren’t able to mass produce them like Bandai or Figma. The Mezco figures always seem to have an area with uneven stitching so I’m guessing that the machine produces the costume and then a human fits it over the figure and finishes the stitching. It’s becoming more common that if I don’t preorder a Mezco figure (sometimes far in advance) I may not get it. Do I think this 1:6 scale figure is worth nearly $250? Hell, no. Right out of the gate the figure is one of the highest priced of any Mezco figures. I’ve never seen Mezco do a second production run of a figure so maybe we’ll see the 1978 Superman soar to all new heights of cost. Beautiful figure and I wish luck to anyone who wants to get it at a reasonable price, but the window of opportunity may have already closed.
