Don’t throw the box away!
First thoughts (opening the box). This thing is packed professionally, like a real piece of equipment, meaning that it is cabled in and you need to be EXTRA careful when trying to remove it from the cardboard. It is zip tied in some places and beneath the yellow side are two round discs that you simply have to ROTATE (I am capitalizing this because some of you won’t and you will end up breaking your new toy before you get it out of the box) them and they pop right off. Most of the writing on the outside of the box is in Chinese, so I just went slowly and figured this out for myself. There are a LOT of instructions (in English) but they are printed very small and you will need a magnifying glass (hint: use your phone’s camera on-screen viewer and zoom in a bit) or you will strain your eyes trying to read everything. The outside of the box has plenty of pictures to give you an idea of how it all works and there is a QR code you need to scan to get the app. This means that you have to download a free QR scanner (if you have an iPhone—I am unsure of the latest Androids have a built in QR scanner). I am going to try to scan that code now and see what happens . . . OH MY GOD WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS THAT WAS!Okay, let’s say that you have bought this tank and your QR scanner won’t focus in on this. I tried pretty much everything for 3 minutes and finally tapped a mysterious on-screen icon in my QR scanner app* and the app asked if I would let it access my photos. I got the idea to ditch the failing effort and snap a clear picture of the QR code on the box and then crop it (hit “edit” on your phone’s photo thingy) so that all I had was the code. THAT worked. If you can’t get the QR scan thing to work try searching for an app called HQ Tank and download that. (* Lower right corner: I am using something called “QR Code” from the app store in case your QR scanner can’t use photos). So now I have the QR code scanned and the QR code app says “would you like to go to this www site? And that opens up the app store and you d/l the tank app. All is well with the world. A radar screen comes up (it is looking to see if your tank is on, and if it is not—mine is charging—it says it can’t find your tank; so be sure to turn your tank “on”). I’ma go do that now.Okay, red lights on the tank are flashing (check!). At this moment the screen says “Tank1” Not Connected and offers to rescan. I am 20 feet away; not a good sign. I moved the phone to six inches away from the tank and still nothing. I am going to charge the tank some more and come back to this after RTFM :-)Yeah, so after a few days with this it is till fun. Not "accurate" but it does work when the tank is fully charged. It is a bit of a PitA to set up but once you do you are good to go and every time you turn the tank on you will be having fun instantly. You can connect several tanks to one phone (app) but you can only control one tank at a time. Fortunately you can exit from control of THAT tank with the touch of your screen and select a different tank without leaving the app. All in all a fun toy; but a basic one. I got mine to test (free sample provided) but I could see myself buying one since it is so cheap. But only for battlefield situations: the range on this is not that great and it does not make noises.

A Good RC Tank
This is a great RC tank. My 9-year old son has been having a blast with it. I scanned the code on the box and downloaded the app onto my iPhone in seconds. Then we got right to playing with this and controlling it via Bluetooth and the app. The app provides simple controls that move the tank and the gun in all directions. It has two fire options: rapid fire machine gun and bombs. Each has its own sounds that adjust based on the phones volume. The tank has lights on it and the gun barrel lights up when fired. It also makes tank engine noises both at idle and when moving.I have had to reload the app once because the controls disappeared on it.Overall this is a fun toy. I received it at no cost in exchange for an honest review.
