GEOMAR Crab in Brine – Wild Caught and Ready-to-Eat - Nutritious Seafood Delicacy- Pack of 6 (5.3 oz each)

I specifically ordered an imported product thinking it would be better than most USA products. The flavor is mild and most of the crab was a small, shredded product. There were one or two inch long pieces of crab in each can. BUT, beware....there is a lot of fine pieces of shell throughout this product. It was gritty with shell! Totally ruined my recipe of crab stuffed mushrooms. Would not recommend for this reason!

But, the convenience of having a can of already cracked crab available in the pantry, especially ‘real’ crab and not some textured-protein version of crab, when was really appealing as I’m always looking for ways to change-my-routine and make some different for the family to have for dinner.And, for my first change of pace dinner, I made some crab fried rice. Saffron rice, some snow peas, a couple of scrambled eggs, some seasonings, the crab juice and the Geomar crab meat. What I ended up with was a dinner that, I thought, was really good. The taste of the crab juice infused the rice and the bits/pieces of visually recognizable and identifiable by taste crab meat made the meal a success with my family.When I opened the can of Geomar crab, I was pleased with the amount of crab meat in the can versus the amount of water/juice in the can. Compared to other cans of crab meat that I’ve purchased in the past that seem to be mostly water, the Geomar can seemed to me to be a more-than-acceptable amount of crab.And, for me at least, the crab every bit the way I expect real crab meat to look. There was some shredded bits of meat, yes, but I also found some larger pieces of meat that looked to me as if they were crab leg.From a taste perspective, apart from the taste of the crab fried rice, I also tried some crab meat straight out of the can and with pleased with the taste. To my taste buds there was nothing ‘fishy’ or off-tasting about the meat, just the taste of a decent quality crab.For my next meal, I’m considering having the crab meat as, perhaps, a version of crab-salad; something similar to chicken salad. That should be another great change of pace meal that I’m starting to look forward to.The Geomar canned crab meat is, for me and for my family, a quality canned version of crab that I think I can make a number of different, but tasty meals out of.If this review was helpful, please click the Helpful button below

I've ate three cans already and from I've experienced, there are about 1-3 hard shell pieces that can actually injure you per can. Soft shell pieces range from 5-10.The hard shells are really hard to spot since many of the pieces of crab is shredded so even if you remove some, the sheer amount of hard shells is a huge turn off. The flavor is good, but unless you are really good at removing hard shells, I'd avoid this.

I bought this crab to use to make crab cakes. The flavor was nice but extremely mild right out of the can, not “crabby” enough for me. This type of crab probably just has a milder taste, so it’s my personal preference that I’d prefer it to be more flavorful. It had a mild smell. It seemed very fresh. The crab was very clean. It did not have a lot of sand or shells in it. It had large chunks and small shredded pieces of crab in a brine like juice. My cats loved the juice. Lol. I like that it’s harvested with small boats in an environmentally friendly way and packaged by hand in a small factory. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the very mild taste. Others may actually prefer the mildness, depending on what they’re using the crab to make, or if they’re eating it by itself. I would buy this crab again.

Second order was bad, could've been in the shipping but I don't know, it was spoiled

I didn't realize it would be grated. I thought there would be chunks of claw meat.

I purchase canned crab meat when I want to make crab cakes. I normally have to make it crab cakes because it is normally fishy smelling and won't eat it plain.This arrives in a case of 6 cans. Each can is 5.3 ounces. Each can is the size of a tuna can. It has a pull back top that has to be pulled back carefully so not to cut yourself.Upon opening the can, the first thing I notice is that there is no fishy smell. I drained the liquid. I can see chunks of crab throughout the shredded crab meat. This is nice. Not just shredded crab!To taste, it is good. It is not fishy tasting at all. It does have a saltiness from the brine. It is a mild flavor, briny and not sweet. There are tiny pieces of shell and a couple grains of sand every once in a while. I expect this from canned crabmeat though. Having shell and sand states it is the real deal.I can easily eat a can of it without adding mayo, salt, pepper or any other ingredient. It didn't even make it on a cracker. It was a good snack.It is wild caught. Fair trade certified. Product of Chile.I wavered in between 4 and 5 stars. I decided on Five stars because I can eat it right out of the can. Wild caught always means it is going to cost more. I almost gave it 4 stars because it lacks the sweetness I like that fresh crab has except this is not fresh crab. This is crab out of a can. Therefore, it is good.There are 2 servings a container. 1 serving is 33 calories, 7g protein. 200mg salt, .5g fat. No carbs.
