Loud alarm; faint humming sound; could be more sensitive
This Methane Gas Leak Detector comes with a helpful user manual that tells me:-- optimal place to put the detector (12 inches from ceiling and 1.5-3 meters from gas supply)-- how to operate and maintain the detector-- what to do if alarm turns onAlso, the manual gives a diagram with details on various parts of the detector (catalytic gas sensor, air inlet, speaker, etc).I use the detector as follows:1. I insert this plug-in detector in an outlet2. The voice from the detector says to wait 3 minutes while alarm is initiating. There is a countdown from 180 to 0.3. Once 3 minutes passes, the voice says it is done initiating and alarm is ready for monitoring.I did a test (as shown in the last picture, one the right, out of 7 pictures located at top left of product description page) by holding a lighter to the designated area. This detector did not give an alarm as fast as another detector that I currently use. Eventually, the alarm came on. I like how loud the alarm is, as I could hear this in the room furthest from the detector.I like that there is a visual reading. As long as I see 0 (zero), I am happy. If I see any other number, that's when I start investigating for leaks. This detector emits a faint "humming" sound (for lack of a better term). When I turn off the TV, radio, etc., and no on is talking, if I am next to the detector, I can hear this humming noise. The product box says that the package contents include 2 mounting screws and 4 circular adhesive tape, but none were included. Also, it's not needed, as this is a plug-in device.Overall, while this is not as sensitive as another of my detector, I find it useful for our needs, as we have a natural gas stove, water heater, and dryer. I can never have too many detectors.

Peace of mind
I have a gas stove and it is always in the back of my mind, did I turn the stove/oven all the way off? I check it at least 10 times a night before I go to bed. Now I have this plugged in beside the stove. It gives me some peace of mind and maybe I won't need to check so much.

This thing talks to you but would be better if took batteries
The media could not be loaded. I like talking alarms as they can tell U exactly what alarm is instead of a chime you might misinterpret with other sounds in home. One thing that through me off was that this is not battery operated but needs an outlet.Problem there is you loose power you get no sensing and other issue is that you are now limited to where you can install it. Being that this is a gas detector and I have natural gas that is lighter than air and rises up, you want to divide wall in half and install this on the upper quadrant. Now who has an outlet on that upper quadrant ? Not many people. So for this type of detector I would of opted for one that works on batteries.Keep that in mind if U have natural gas as you will need a higher outlet to install this.Check out the video of this talking to you which is cool indeed and provides a nice level or alarming.
