Dairoku: Agents of Sakuratani - Nintendo Switch

Character Driven
Dairoku is more of a character driven game than a plot heavy one. So if you are looking for some amazing life changing plot this game will probably not be for you. This also might be a good game if you are just starting to play otome games because you aren't going to die if you make a wrong choice like in Piofiore: Fate Memories and Collar X Malice. That said I really liked it and it is one of my favorites! There are 3 types of endings for each of the 5 guys: the friendship ending, the lost love ending (sad) & the romance ending (best). I thought Shino was an awesome main character. She wasn't a pushover and could almost hold her own against her boss (lol). I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just say my favorite routes were Hira, Semi & Shiratsuki (Hira really surprised me with how much I liked him) with Shiratsuki's lost love being my favorite of the sad endings (...so bittersweet). Some Cons-- I could say is that they could have done away with the "finale" route and added more to the other 5 guys routes--it is heavy on Japanese Yokai that you might have to look up if you are unfamiliar with them (I didn't have any issues with this but I realize some people might)--Some of the backgrounds made it feel empty (but overall I thought it fit the vibe of the game)Spoilers??--another review said there was no kiss CG's but there are & the characters do get together at the end of the romance ending

Lackluster title
While I really enjoy the art style and music of this game I can’t say the same for the lack of story and world building. The story itself isn’t very deep like a good bit of otome games are, there’s no really good steamy moments and what you work up to is at best a brief kiss at the end and the end chapters for your romances are boring. I really looked forward to Dairoku because of the concept but it fell flat, I will say I loved Hira as a character and I wanted to romance him, I did and enjoyed it somewhat but as the trend with the other boys romance fell flat and was boring once you got near the end of his route. I’d say skip this one and pick up Cafe Enchante, Cupid Parasite, Olympia, Collar x Mallice or Piofiore instead those are amazing.

Weak follow up to the previous released otome game.
After the big hit that was Cupid Parasite, this released otome game felt somewhat flat. Also you can play the final route without doing anything. It's available from the get go, which is not a good sign. The main poster boy was frustrating and only seemed to bother the MC throughout the majority of the game. Doesn't help that they somewhat look the same. Also the common route was way too long and none of the characters were that interesting save for the lazy tengu named Hira. If this came out before Cupid Parasite, I could forgive it but still, this one felt weak when it comes to games in this genre. This might be the worse Otomate / Aksys otome game I've played so far, which is saying something since that title used to go to Café Enchante. In all, if you want to skip this game, go ahead. You aren't missing out on anything worthwhile.

It's Okay
This was honestly a boring otome game. There was barely any plot in this game as it was mostly about the characters. If you want a boring otome experience with little to no romance, then this is the game for you.

I hate to say it..
This was not a favorite of mine. There are (spoilers)— No kiss scenes! At most the main boys are your buddies… To me this shouldn’t be classified as an otome game, but more of a fantasy slice of life. The story was interesting but not enticing. There is no dictionary attached to the Japanese folklore. There were a lot of complicated words (I know most of the words myself, but some people may not —and usually there are definitions behind highlighted words in otome games such as these— there are no definitions and there were quite a words I had to look up)All in all if you’re looking for a romantic game.. this is not one… and if you’re not a big anime nerd you may not know what is even being said half the time. The other thing that bothered me is the stills of the characters are so basic… it’s 2021 and the chars don’t blink or move their mouth. They have three poses at the most. Also the backgrounds are all bland and I feel like it was all one color of purple and nothing really stood out. As someone who buys visual novels for the beautiful art and the flare— it lacked this.I would still recommend it to anime fans for the interesting story. But I was disappointed by the game as an otome labeled genre.
