The Hummingbirds' Gift: Wonder, Beauty, and Renewal on Wings

Interesting but off to a bad start
I would have enjoyed the book much more if the author had not begun the book with a flippant dismissal of Christianity! That is so disrespectful! How about treating us with the same respect you show towards animals??

Jewels of nature
This book is a gift from the author. The lovely descriptive passages bring crisp clear images to the reader’s mind. I have met Ms. Montgomery and have even had the honor of being in one of her books. Her obvious love of her subject is in every word. I mean, who hasn’t stared in wonder and joy in watching this bright, diminutive creature hover unafraid at the nearness of a human?

Another Inspiring Gem
I've read many of Sy Montgomery's books and without fail, I come away with an increased awareness of our animal world, culture differences in some cases, appreciation of those that are "in the field" working to watch over and nurture these animals and Sy's writings report all this and help keep us connected with nature. The Hummingbirds' Gift is another gem, that while I was a bit disappointed in the length, I really enjoyed the content and the story of how two little orphaned hummingbirds were rescued and were raised to be brought to release. The book's diminutive size fits with the size of the birds and is chock full of lots of information that you didn't know about hummingbirds (and their rescuers). The photos included were a special treat! It's worth the read!

Not sure what I was expecting...
but this wasn't it. Never could really get into the book and I'm a person who really enjoys hummingbirds. Fortunately it's a pretty small book, both in size and pages so it didn't take long to get through it. Will donate it to the local library book sale where I'm sure it will find a more appreciative home.

Very interesting!
We are so fortunate to be entertained daily by these amazing tiny creatures. We are always looking for stories and as much information that we can get about them. So when we saw that Sy Montgomery had written a book about her experience with them, we were thrilled to read it. She has not disappointed us yet with her books about nature’s wonderful creatures! The pictures of the hummingbirds were a plus. The work that Brenda does with the wee ones is extraordinary and it was so interesting to follow her determination to keep these abandoned babies alive. I kept wishing I could see her hummingbird garden which the author described so beautifully! We are so glad that there are such very special people like Brenda to do what she does and for Sy who's words describe it in a way we can all enjoy!

Sy Montgomery is wonderful!
This is a wonderful short little (true) story about two abandoned baby hummingbirds, and the sculptor who puts her life on hold to ensure their survival. We learn a tremendous amount of information about hummingbirds generally while we follow their push toward release.

Loved all her books
I have a lot of hummingbirds, so guests are often asking questions about them. This is the perfect coffee table book for them to thumb through. Great author. Credible research.

Scientific facts presented in literary form
Love that Sy Montgomery always researches the animal .behaviors with experts who are also friends. The best thing about her books is that they can be an " easy read" for some and a legitimate source of detailed information for others. I have read all of her books. !!Highly recommend for teens to adult scholars.
