The Smurfs #1: The Purple Smurfs (Volume 1)

Great little (blue and purple) book, my Son loves reading it often. Laughs at the story of the Smurf being bitten and turning purple and only says "Gnap" which does raise a chuckle when read out loud. Papa Smurf of course comes to the rescue and saves the day before they all turn into Purple monster smurfs - good fun.

I found the Smurfs in this story to be a bit edgier than the ones I remember from the 1980s animated series. The things that really surprised me were (1) how well they work together and (2) how cranky these little guys can be. It makes for a reading experience unlike anything else.
