Ultimate courage documented
Sixteen Victoria Crosses were awarded for actions on the Westren Front between the 26th August and the 2nd September 1918; testimony to bitter fighting and extreme bravery exhibited in the dying days of the First World War.Author Paul Oldfield's latest volume on the VCs of the First World War treads the usual path of informed narrative about the actual events, followed by biographies of the men who won Britain's highest and most coveted gallantry award. Even if you have no particular interest in the VC recipients themselves, these books are always useful reference resources for the fighting that was taking place at the time. Recommended.
