I've noticed a lot of people have questioned Jason Statham's acting ability. Statham reminds me of Clint Eastwood who in his youth was accused of having a range consisting of clenching his jaw. The thing about Statham is that he meticulously picks projects that suit him and surrounds himself with good talent behind and in front of the camera. Yes, I am saying that Jennifer Lopez is talented. "Parker" is good not great latter day noir. The thief with a code of ethics that Statham plays is in the tradition of tough guy roles that he's assayed since "The Transporter". The basic plot about the main character left for dead only to seek revenge on his former associates has been done ad infinitum but a certain degree of freshness has been injected into it here. Debits would be a certain flabbiness to Taylor Hackford's direction. He could have tightened it up a bit to heighten the adrenaline. Also, the inevitable showdown between Statham and bad guy Michael Chiklis left a little to be desired. As popcorn entertainment "Parker" is as good as any. Noteworthy is a throwaway gag involving Lopez salivating over Statham's hind quarters.
