Suncast Recycle Bin Kit

I use these bins to accumulate newspapers, plastic bottles, tin cans and glass. Cardboard boxes have to be flattened, so just slide them behind the stacked bins. I stick the bins in my trunk, slide the cardboard into the backseats and take it to our big recycle bins in the grocery store parking lot and empty them about once a week when I pick up a few groceries. I wash all the items before I throw them in my sturdy plastic bins, so I don’t have much cleaning, but it would be simple to wipe them out with a damp rag and let them air dry. Very pleased with this purchase.

We bought a set of two of these to set on our deck by the kitchen door for recyclable trash such as plastic packaging and cans.Unfortunately, the receptacles are not nearly as sturdy as the pictures made them appear. They are made of pretty thin plastic which, given that one of the lids arrived with a big hole in it and on the other the hinged access flap was partly unattached and difficult to reattach without the risk of breaking it too, makes me worry about their longevity. (In fairness, they replaced the broken lid without complaint albeit very slowly). I am also concerned that because of the thinness of the material and despite the blue color they may not withstand the effects of UV radiation for as long as I hoped.Equally important as a drawback is the fact that the lids have sizable recesses which fill with rain water, thereby providing an ideal insect (especially mosquito) breeding area unless dumped regularly. If I had looked at the pictures more carefully I might have noticed these rain-catchers although even then I would have expected they would provide drainage channels. Oh, and when you do dump you have to be careful not to add to the water inside the bin that has run in through gaps next to the hinges. Yes, the thing leaks.So, needless to say, we were disappointed. Definitely DO NOT BUY these for OUTDOOR USE.Ev

Like other people said, the plastic lids are not strong. Since these were made to be stacked that seems like a pretty obvious design flaw. However, since I haven’t filled them to the brim with pet food, they’ve held up.

I am still giving this the benefit of the doubt. But these kids are a real problem! I ordered 2 sets: the first set I kept the hinge broke within a week. The second set (as many complained) the kids are warped, the second round just delivered also have warped kids. The distance of the hinge on the sides is horrible product. But the actual bins are greaT! Perfect to compile about 2 weeks worth of recycling for household of 5 that live off Costco! And they stack beautifully. If the next exchanged batch has the same lid issues I may just leave them off.

I ordered two sets of these. The size is great and they seem sturdy. Giving four stars because when I opened the lids on one set, they both snapped and broke. The other set opened fine.
