Pokémon Adventures (Red and Blue), Vol. 1

I very much enjoyed this read.
I avoided the Pokemon Manga for a long time because I had watched the show. And I REALLY did not like Ash. Or Pikachu. Then at Goodwill I came across a volume called The Best of Red, and bought it on a whim. I ordered this Volume shortly thereafter. To think that something so well done has been waiting for me to discover it. For the first time ever, I read about a Pikachu, and thought he was cool! If only the marketers had kept him true to this original, meaner-looking form!As soon as a new paycheck rolled in, I ordered Volume 2. I am more than happy to display this Manga amongst my extensive collection of everything from K-On to Claymore. A Great Read!

A delightful trip in Pokemon
Pokemon Adventures Volume 1 is essentially a release of a similar named manga from a few years ago. I do not know many of the details from that one for I was intrigued by this release and cover and saw that it was "new".Essentially Pokemon Adventures follows the storyline of the video games, probably Pokemon Yellow version the most and expands upon it. The manga does not follow the exploits of Ash Ketchum nor even mention his name at all. Professor Oaks grandson, Gary, ie, Blue in this one, is still here but once again they dont reference Gary from the show either. Team Rocket is present however it also does not have Jesse, James, or Meowth. So ultimately, this manga takes place in the video game world and takes some elements from the anime, but does not directly reference them.Volume follows Red, the main character, as he goes to do what Professor Oak told him to do in order to become a pokemon master. Because Professor Oak is too old, he gave Red and Blue a Pokedex and entrusted them with travelling around the world to gain data on every Pokemon imaginable. He also told Red that in order for him to become a pokemon master he must fill up this device. Red starts the journey with a Poliwhirl, but ends up catching more and more pokemon. The story is quite faced paced and up the ante on the seriousness of Pokemon. Team Rocket seems more evil than they were in any recent showing with their use of wanting to kill anyone who stands in their way and carrying out experiments on pokemon or tricking townspeople. Red and Blue often run into Team Rocket at the same time as they keep having run-ins with them and their search for the mysterious pokemon. All in all this is a fantastic fast paced story that is based in the Pokemon universe and is sure to please any Pokemon fan adequately.Art is done very well clear and easy to read words and panels. The modern English sounding translation is crystal clear. And finally, the manga is read in the traditional format. Bonuses in the back of the manga include a summary of Red's adventures, a Pokedex of key Pokemon he used, and a preview for Volume 2.

A much more coherent Pokémon story
Wow, I was surprised at how well this story is told after having seen the atrociously poor storytelling of the official Pokémon anime. Ash is a poor character in comparison to Red.

Not game accurate, but very entertaining
I am a veteran of the pokemon videogames, having played everything from the first generation to the most current release. over the years, Pokemon has been a constant for me, and revisiting the story of the original games via this manga is great. while certainly sticking closer to the game than the anime did, this adaptation is not without error. certain Philemon type matchup just don't make any sense. pikachu seems impervious to rock attacks, and meanwhile literally kills an onix with a lightning attack as an example. if you can look past these things, you will find an entertaining and nostalgic piece of pokemon media.

If you love the games and show, this is a must read!
Never read the manga before until now! I’ve been a Pokémon fan since Gen 1 back on the good ‘ol Gameboy days! The games are always awesome, and the show gets a bit more in depth, but somehow the Manga breathes life into the franchise the way nothing else has. You see the world of Pokémon in a different light. I’m some ways it it makes Pokemon more “adult” or at least more mature for older fans. Anyways, it’s amazing!

Pretty great
Pretty great. Great book with amazing story loosely following the games so you get a free experience. But Amazon had to be Amazon and damage this spine a little.

Apparently good if you are a Pokemon fan
Bought this for our eight-year old, who is now very much in to Pokemon – although his passion changes every few weeks. I bought it a holiday stocking gift along with some other volumes in the series. He is a decent reader but this may be too demanding for him and perhaps not appealing enough given that all the pages and art is in black and white with the drawings a little simplistic. But given his interest he will still appreciate the book. His interest is mostly based on the cartoons and toys, luckily he hasn’t shifted his interest to the card game.. Apparently this is a really good book if you are a hard-core Pokemon fan and the books are suitable for all ages. Personally I’m quite quite a fan of continental comics but struggle with magna, and will not read these books unless I need help our younger reader get into it a little bit – which I hope will not happen.

Great story, really cool to read on the Kindle app on my iPad
Great story! Its a type of story which you can read before bed or when relaxing. Its a very light, relaxing read. I recommend it if you have a heavy work schedule and sometimes need a little light book to unwind in your time off. Very comfortable and relaxing while an enjoyable book.

Pokemon Adventures volume 1
The Pokemon Adventures manga is a very, very loose adaptation of the first two Pokemon games Red and Blue (or Green if your Japanese). The first three Volumes covers the Red/Blue era and unlike the Anime it follows the journey of Red, the playable character from the first game and his Pokemon partners Poliwhirl/Poliwrath (Poli) Bulbasaur (Saur) and Pikachu (Pika) on his quest to be the strongest Pokemon trainer in the land. Standing in his way however is his rival Blue and the villainous organisation Team Rocket, who actually come across as a serious threat unlike the show and even the game this is base off of.The main thing to bare in mind whilst reading this is to remember that this is not the anime, this manga follows its own story and has its own take on many of the characters from the games. Red himself is very different from Ash and while there are some similarities he is a very different entity.Whilst not without its flaws, it is rather dated concidering how far we've come in terms of Pokemon games, and being an adaptation there are some liberties taken such as Poliwag and Nidorino hanging around Pallet Town and there being a Kangaskhan in Viridian Forest, however in the whole it is an enjoyable read and I think anyone who likes Pokemon will enjoy this.

An entertaining manga
This first volume of the Pokémon Adventures manga sees the young trainer named Red who embarks on a mission to become the best trainer in the world and capture every type of pokémon.First off I must say that this manga has little to nothing to go with the Pokémon anime and follows its own storyline that is, to be honest, far superior to the one for the anime. The series does suffer somewhat from the translation which changes the name of Professor Oak's Grandson from Green (as it was in the original Japanese) to Blue and a few other changes. Other than this the series is still quite enjoyable, even if it does take some liberties with the rules set down by the game.
