The Saxon Spears: a novel of the Dark Ages Paperback – 2 December 2019

A very interesting period of history but I found the story and characters lacked depth and detail. Disappointing.

This looked like a promising novel set in the decades following the abandonment of Britain by the Romans and the struggles between the Romano British and the Saxons, Jutes etc. A very interesting period, in fact.However it is poorly written and rather lightweight compared with, for instance, the Last Kingdom series from Bernard Cornwall. The final straw was when the Saxon leader referred to his comrades as "you guys"!I won`t be buying the sequels.

Much better than expected. Many modern author's keep their books a bit light, but this at least seems to have some authority
