The Best of Elizabeth Gaskell

All the books were the same except one, it isn’t a big inconvenience as the edition that is different is beautiful and they arrived wrapped in ribbon, thankfully none of the books were damaged.

I’ve ordered and returned these books twice now. They were supposed to be a gift and both came with the corners of the books ripped and folded, the spines scraped up and the ribbon sliced off and frayed. Could not gift them in such terrible shape.

Mrs. Gaskell's genius is showcased in her inter-generational family relationships. You are in the room with her for every conversation and can see the characters, as well as the food, furniture and wallpaper. (Why did women only eat oranges in private? You'll find out!) Gaskell describes all the societal changes she witnessed, from the rise of industry and capitalism to the coming of the railway. I promise that she is is the person you want to have tea with in heaven!

I like Gaskell’s style of writing.
