Stale coffee.
I usually order my Coffee directly from an Island roaster, Paradise Roasters. Well, I was late on getting order in so I have to wait a few days before it comes. Being an impatient man, I thought I'd order some quickie Kona coffee from Amazon that would come the same day! How cool is that?Well, to be that accessible and quick, it means its been sitting in a warehouse where they can get to it quick. The question is...how long? Well, the Peaberry (which I like,) came with no roasting date and even no expiration date. First clue. The Coffee I order from Paradise Roasters always has a roasting date and it's usually just a few days before I actually get it. This stuff? Consult a quiga board.Second clue? The smell. What smell? Kinda musty and odorless I guess. My old, used grounds smelled better.Third clue? Taste. One sip. Not going any farther. Nope. Not gonna do it.What else to buy? Actually, I have no clue. I've been spoiling myself so long buying directly from the Hawaii Roasters that I'm completely outta touch with what else is out there these days. For all I know, this might be considered great coffee. I wouldn't know.Cuz, compared to real, fresh roasted Kona varieties (yeah, there's a lot of varieties)...this is not good. It really sux.

What was needed at the time.
Wasn’t AS good as the stuff I used to order straight from the farm but my dad still liked it. I used to buy the Peaberry from one of the farms in Hawaii once in a while for my dad. Recently he was put on Hospice unexpectedly and while still in the hospital he had mentioned this coffee. I decided as they thought he had less than a week that I would get some for him some how fast and was able to get this next day on Amazon. Apparently it must have been old stock and when brewed using same Griner and pot he has had forever, it came out relatively weak, so we had to increase the amount of grind and it was better for him. With Gods grace he has survived since his release but is still on hospice.

The Pinnacle of flavor in Kona Coffee
Kona coffee has 3 categories: 1. 100% Kona Coffee - this is not a "blend," but comprised of 100% Kona Coffee Beans. 2. Extra Fancy 100% Kona Coffee. This rating is given by Kona Coffee Council to beans that have uniformity in size and have a taste differential associated with this coffee. 3. Peaberry are beans, comprising 10% of the harvested beans that are not a result of a split in the branch resulting it 2 beans. This is a mutation where there is only 1 bean, and these beans are rarer. The taste is also magnificent as well, and is another wrung in the ladder of my education concerning Kona Coffee. I purchased the Hualalai Estate Medium Dark Roast Peaberry beans for my first try of Peaberry coffee, and am impressed by the flavor. Both are excellent coffees of the Extra Fancy rating. Here is a link for the Helios Coffee as, for some reason, when you put in the search term, it doesn't come up on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B07L42RLDN/ref=pd_bap_d_rp_2_cr_2/144-4427269-0403739?pd_rd_i=B07L42RLDNALL LINKS ABOVE ARE FROM AMAZON'S WEB SITE.

Disastrous holiday gift!
Very rarely do I return items purchased on Amazon, even more rarely do I review purchases, and almost never for their poor quality (Before I buy I research my purchases as best as I can); HOWEVER, I purchased 2 packages of very expensive and well rated coffee to give at the holidays as presents. The items shipped quickly, BUT the packages looked like they had gone through the war; one of the coffee bags was crumpled . Bottom line: they could not be used as gifts. SO I kept them to use as a special treat, or for company. The first brew was a disaster, bitter with poor flavor, worse than the average run of the mill stuff one can buy. So for my second brew, I was very very careful to follow the instructions precisely, measuring carefully. BUT AGAIN, horrible coffee. and worse yet, the time to return the items had now lapsed. Am I stuck with this miserably overpriced overrated coffee? Can't Amazon allow more time to reeturn Items, especially as many are used as gifts? HELP!
