... peeve about this book was that there wasn't a sad enough mood surrounding Sophie's ruse
My only peeve about this book was that there wasn't a sad enough mood surrounding Sophie's ruse. I feel like there should have been supporting language showing she was seething the whole time. Rape and his plans were way serious. I didn't get enough intensity.I loved hearing about the Dryads again. The book worked well mechanically in details. The more fantastic fantasy aspects/ creativity were great as usual. The romance was way sweet. The end resolves were superb. I loved it like I've loved all the Regia books. Now I'm waiting for Melina's story, that (somewhat) cliffhanger sounds juicy. If you love the Regia series, you might find the ruse awkward, but you'll love the book. If you haven't read the Regia series, you've gotta catch up first or things will be muddled--- you have to start all the way from The Legends of Regia, I say.The thing that makes Tenaya's books so good in no special order are creativity, mechanics, plotline, and mood. Tenaya may your creative juices continue to flow for years to come. Thanks for gifting us with your art.

Another incredible read by Jayne
Dark, disturbing, delicious...that's the newest book in Jayne's The Shadows of Regia series. If you've followed the Regia series from the beginning, you know the background characters well. Now, with Shadows, we get to learn about some of the children of our favorite characters. Feral centers around Sophie, Sabra and Shreve's oldest daughter. Sophie finds herself in a very dark place, personally, emotionally and in her relationship. Jayne's take on how she deals with her emotions and her personal threat is amazing. And, while you think you know what's going to happen, the surprise ending is anything but expected. Jayne's imagination makes for amazing reading! Another incredible read by Jayne.

What was that!?
There are great moments in the Regia series. The character development is there along with the world development. There are major issues that I thought would be polished as the series continued but no. The language is colloquial like in places and cringe worthy at times and others just plain out of place. It makes no sense for a creature that is ancient and noble to talk like a 14 year old girl from the Valley. The fight scenes tend to be rushed and the ending to this last book was clearly unfinished, not a cliff hangar, just a chopped up mess. Tenaya the bulk of your books show your a great writer but those issues are a turn off. It is ok to take time on your art before you release it.

A powerful story set in a magical world!
I was drawn into the world Tenaya Jayne created - and the way her heroine, who is betrayed and badly hurt, uses her amazing gift to process and express her emotions...well, it was beautiful and raw and powerful. I won't tell you more - you'll have to read and experience it yourself. :) The hero and heroine are complex, and the stakes are high. War threatens, people are betrayed, and yet in the midst of dark times, Jayne offers moments of humor that deftly balance the presence of evil. A great read!
