Moominland Midwinter: Special Collector’s Edition

This book may appeal to adults more than to cvhildren.
It's a whimsical, philosophical story of some Finnish trolls who spend the long Finnish winter asleep in their warm cozy beds. A perfect book for a cold winter evening.

Muy maltratado
Estoy comprando este libro en inglés porque no está en español en mi país, siendo una novela ilustrada esperaba que lo enviaran con más cuidado, está completamente sucio y con rozaduras notables, pago por un producto nuevo y en condiciones.

Magic, enchantment and wisdom for the young at heart
I was an avid reader as a child (now 63) but somehow the Moomins passed me by…. until now. I’m not reading them for my children, or grandchildren but for for myself, and much like that other great philosophical work, Winnie the Pooh, this is a book that offers so much to the young at heart and curious adult reader. For me, the book deals with the theme of the Dark Night of the Soul, which we might experience as a time of great loss, the death of a partner, illness, redundancy, anything that turns our world upside down leaving us unable to function as “normal”. Our habitual patterns of being are taken away from us and there is a whole new strange world to navigate. This is what happens as Moomintroll wakes to winter, alone as the remainder of his family sleeps on. He is disorientated, scared, tries to cling to what was, but eventually realises he has to embrace the unfamiliar, the creatures that only come out in the darkness, allow objects to assume new uses, basically lean in and surrender to the chaos. There are so many amazing quotes in the book, but I love Moomintroll’s sense of achievement at surviving the underworld journey of winter . “Now I’ve got everything, I’ve got the whole year. Winter too. I’m the first Moomin to have lived through an entire year.” At the end he and the Snork Maiden find a crocus pushing through the once snow covered earth. She wants to protect it with a cloche from any further cold, but Moomin says “no, don’t do that… I believe it’s going to do still better if things aren’t so easy”. We are shaped by how we navigate challenging times. This edition is fabulous. The papers are tactile and warm to the touch, the retro colours on the cover a delight. Nearly every page is illustrated and there is a feeling of generosity and whimsy in their abundance throughout the book.I felt transported to a magical land while reading, and moved by the characters and storyline. I challenge anyone with a heart not to be similarly enchanted by it.

Very nice, wholesome and cute!
Love this book! The story is wholesome but also has more "meaning" and depth than an average childrens book.
