Milk and Honey Part Two.
If you’ve read Milk and Honey then you’ve read this. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because if you loved Milk and Honey then you might love this, but you’ll most definitely notice the similarities. The Sun and Her Flowers is pretty much the very same book, the formatting, the order of events and even some of the poems felt as though I’d read them before.; certainly the messages behind them and even sometimes the way that message was delivered were almost identical. Whilst I enjoyed Rupi Kaur’s debut, I wanted to see where she would take this next, not just to read it again with a slightly different take.Kaur divides her collection into themes, structuring it in the form of a journey from pain and abuse to growth and overcoming what we have faced; The poems are very much a means to suggest methods of self-discovery to encourage women to challenge societal expectations and have self-worth. I really liked that she celebratory women, included her own hand-drawn illustrations (some of which were a bit weird!) and shared her own story with the reader; if you’ve been through any of the things she has I think you’ll find at least a handful of poems which especially resonate with you. I particularly enjoyed the latter part of this book which began to discuss aging, death and what we leave behind. The Sun and Her Flowers is undoubtedly impactful, but it does feel like a re-read rather than something with a different approach from what we’ve already seen. I struggled with exactly the same issues as the last book, namely that her tone can be a little condescending and that her execution of ideas is sometimes isolating for the reader – I prefer to work out the meaning of a poem or take from it what I needed rather than it being blunt and forceful.I’m not sure if I’ll read anymore of Rupi Kaur’s future work without an assurance that it offers something different. Because whilst I liked it, what I’m looking for is a poetry collection in which each book along that shelf contains something specific I might need, rather than multiple which can do the same job.

Not poetry
Whoever told this person they could write poetry was joking. Her work is poor at best. Laughable! This is a collection of mundane claptrap and most of the poems sound like Instagram captions or bio’s - not poetry.

First poetry book I've purchased
I kept seeing accounts on Instagram and boards on Pinterest just dedicated to this book so I checked it out and sampled some pages. I struggle with mental health issues and this poetry book has really helped and inspired me with some of my feelings, especially towards love and relationships I had with men I was dating. As we all know if something romantic ends and you get treated horribly you feel like crap for weeks even months, but reading the section dedicated to healing and moving on really helped me to understand and realise that it wasnt my fault and I cannot controll other peoples actions, no matter how hard I want too.If you're struggling with similar issues or just want to read a well written poetry book then pick this up!!!

Gorgeous and soul baring
Kauri always manages to connect me with her work and whenever I read her poetry it's like something I needed to hear without knowing. I reread them very often and each time is as good as the first time reading it. I adore her work and highly recommend people to read it; the book does touch upon sensitive topics but I believe it is a read that is needed especially if you yourself have been through hardships in life
