A great security camera for a simple do-it-yourself system.
This a great security camera for simple security. For less than $90, I bought the camera, an extension cord, and an outdoor (electrical) junction box for the cables. Now I can see who drives up to my house, can record "critters in the night," and have a greater sense of security. Yes, the software isn't the greatest. Yes, the instructions and website help take some deciphering. And, YES, I did not pay many hundreds of dollars for a security system at the "big box stores."All-in-all, I invested about 2 hours learning the camera and the software and installing it outside looking down my driveway. Pretty nice. Easy to do.I have set this camera to record on "alarms," which means when it detects movement. I can also watch remotely when I am not home.I strongly recommend this camera for a first effort at a security system. I plan to buy another camera for inside the home when I travel.UPDATE AFTER 3 WEEKS: I am still a great fan of this camera. It works very, very well in SD (standard definition) recording. HD (high definition) didn't work as well, even when I got a wi-fi extender. Maybe HD works best when the camera is hard wired? Overall, I would rate this camera as meeting 95% of my goals. However, for the price and easy of set-up and installation, I will bump this up to $100. It's well worth it for me, and I expect to get another camera from HiKam.A final thought: I did have some questions about setting up the camera. I emailed their support folks, and I got clear and prompt replies after regular business hours and on the weekend. That support is 100% and a real bonus.

This Camera is Not Ready Yet to be Sold, Oh I got it now!
REVIEW UPDATE - I persisted with setting up this camera and eventually met with success. The key for me seemed to be skipping 'airlink' and setting up the camera manually using a cat 5 from the camera to the router. Airlink kept giving me timeouts. Lily at HiKam support did provide many helpful hints. If you do get this camera and I do like it a lot for the money, I recommend setting up all phones and PC software BEFORE moving the camera outside and onto the roof unless you enjoy undoing all the permanent fixing procedures and like climbing tall ladders. I do think the software is a little buggy but the second time I set it up, it worked like a charm and continues to work well. I have the camera about 30 meters from my AC router which is unobstructed except for my large front windows - no walls. This 720p unit provides sharp optics during the day and very good IR at night. Here is the test: would I buy another one or would I recommend this unit to friend and family, and the anser is yes provided I told them my whole setup story. Learn from my experience and you will be a happy camper.FIRST REVIEW - First the good - it's a small form camera with very good 720p resolution and good IR at night. Now the bad - this camera is near impossible to get going well. Initially, I did get the camera set up in my house and it worked well but then I moved it to monitor my front entrance and that is when the nightmare started. The camera "timeouts" constantly and then there is the password errors when trying to set up an account. If you are a computer hardware and software expert perhaps you could get this thing going. I have tried numerous times e-mailing Lily at support but with each fix suggested, my problems with this product simply compound. Initially the camera worked occasionally but now it is completely kaput. I have tried as many avenues that I can think of to get this thing working. No luck.I think this product is simply not ready for the market. I have invested so many hours trying to get this camera working properly and I think the customers at Amazon should be warned before buying this. I made a mistake buying this and I hope this review helps you not the make the same mistake. If you buy it and start pulling your hair out, you cannot say you were not warned. I my experience changes, I will of course update this review. For now I am going to research an alternative with much higher ratings.

Only useful for most basic application.
This is the most basic camera you will find. If all you want is a camera to view on your phone using HiKam's app this can do it. If you want to do anything more like add this camera as part of a surveillance system or view it from a computer outside your home network, you are going to be disappointed. This camera does not have a browser based GUI which means you can't access the camera from your home computer using a web browser. Not having this function means your camera is useless for anything but access through the HIKam phone app or computer program. The phone app is descent, but the PC software is terrible. Customer support dances around this issue by giving you guides to add your camera to other phone apps or software, but they don't bother to tell you they only work while your phone or PC is connected to your home wifi. As soon as your phone or laptop drops off your wifi your camera connection is lost and becasue the camera can't be accessed over the internet you can't make it work. Lastly, don't let the High Infinity Germany name fool you, Germany is just a name, and this camera is made in China. It is a generic GWellTimes-IPC camera used in lots of Chinese knock-off cameras. You can Google the name to see the reviews.
